CORPORATE STAFF ACCOUNTANT

 

Summit Hotel Properties, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Corporate Staff Accountant to join our dynamic accounting team. This role reports to the Director of Accounting and is ideal for a hands-on professional with strong analytical skills, a controls-focused mindset, and a collaborative spirit. The Staff Accountant will play a key role in the daily accounting operations and support the month-end close process, ensuring compliance with internal controls and external reporting standards.

 

Responsibilities include the following:

 

  • Manage daily bank account activity and process cash applications for multiple entities
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for multiple entities
  • Process and distribute Wire, Check, and ACH payments
  • Coordinate and manage online tax payments (including income and property taxes)
  • Review and process approved invoices
  • Prepare recurring and non-recurring journal entries for the general ledger
  • Assist in the review of property manager capital expenditures and maintain regular communication to track the status and progress of schedules
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and maintain accurate accounting records
  • Ensure internal controls are maintained and executed in compliance with SOX (Section 404)
  • Work closely with auditors, tax preparers and other accounting/finance related professionals
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis and assist with special projects as directed by management

 

Qualifications

Education and experience requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or relevant experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Strong analytical mindset with high attention to detail
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Team-oriented with a proactive, “can-do” attitude
  • Experience with accounting software and procurement platforms (experience with PMWeb a plus)
  • Understanding of GAAP and SOX compliance is preferred
