Job Summary:

Works under the direction and supervision of the Nursing Manager or their designee. The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides assistance to the physician, mid-level provider, head nurse and patient. The LVN is a member of the health care team responsible for performing assigned nursing care activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Functions:

  • LVNs are responsible for knowing the scope of practice.
  • Prepares Charts
  • Obtains consents
  • Assists in controlling patient flow
  • Prepares patients for examinations or procedures including positioning, draping, shaving and disinfecting treatment sites
  • Prepares and replenishes supplies in the treatment room and exam rooms; maintain exam rooms in an orderly and constant state of readiness for incoming patients
  • Receives patients, take and record chief complaint and prepare patient for examination; record blood pressure, pulse, respirations, pulse oxymetry, height and weight
  • Collects specimens, takes EKGs collect blood samples as requested by clinic personnel; assists the physician with examination, treatments, minor surgery, dressing changes and splinting
  • Explains to the patient the procedures followed in an examination, a diagnostic test or treatment at the request of clinic personnel
  • Assists the provider in the collection of specimens such as pap smears and throat cultures
  • Assists with exams, invasive procedures and minor surgeries that are carried out by providers
  • Cleans and sterilizes supplies, rooms and equipment
  • Disposes of contaminated, disposable and outdated items
  • Reports to head nurse when equipment needs maintenance
  • Reports to head nurse when materials needed in clinical area need to be ordered.
  • Arranges dated supplies in order of expiration
  • Places blue dot when new medication or supply is opened
  • Operates under the standing orders of the physician
  • Administers medications, premixed allergens, and performing skin test, patch testing
  • Keeps up to date all quality assurance logs (Oxygen pressure, glucometer, refrigerator temperature, medication inventory, sample medication inventory, immunizations inventory)
  • Reviews patient record and forms for completion and accuracy
  • Answers the telephone and give accurate information
  • Provides patient counseling and education
  • Supplies exam rooms with educational materials
  • Case Manages patients
  • Attends all staff meetings
  • Demonstrates willingness to assist co-workers whenever needed. Maintain good working relationship with all clinic personnel
  • LVNs will work according to Job description and scope of practice, if more training is needed the head nurse will provide it.
  • Responsible for continuing education, has current license and CPR card

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

  • Licensed as Vocational Nurse in the State of California
  • BLS certification with American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • Minimum of one year of nursing experience preferred
  • Clean driving record and insurance as required by the state

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • knowledge of the operation of all equipment in clinical area, and correct use
  • knowledge and practices of department policies and protocols, to ensure uniform delivery of services and promotes quality assurance
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Able to use calculator, telephone, fax and copy machine
  • Able to analyze research, prioritize, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to lead
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions
  • Proficiency in computer use and the internet
