Description

Boone Memorial Health is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Materials Management to lead and oversee all aspects of our Materials Department, including Purchasing and Central Services. This individual will play a critical role in streamlining procurement processes, managing inventory, and ensuring the efficient distribution of materials throughout our organization.

Who We Are

Boone Memorial Health (BMH) is a growing, rural Critical Access Health System located in Madison, West Virginia. At the core of our system is a 25-bed inpatient hospital with a 24/7 Emergency Department, designated as a Level IV Trauma Center. BMH also operates a network of outpatient clinics and specialty services throughout Boone County and beyond. Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate Degree in Business Administration, Economics, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • At least 2 years of recent experience in purchasing or materials management in a healthcare environment

  • At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong understanding of inventory and purchasing practices within a hospital setting

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 3–5 years of leadership experience in Materials Management


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement policies for procurement, inventory, receiving, and distribution

  • Prepare reports, budgets, and analyses in support of General Services leadership

  • Collaborate with hospital departments to ensure efficient procurement of materials

  • Negotiate vendor contracts and oversee purchasing agreements

  • Approve purchase orders and manage capital expenditure tracking

  • Coordinate Central Services operations (excluding sterilization)

  • Solicit and review supplier proposals for non-pharmaceutical, non-dietary items

  • Foster positive working relationships with staff, physicians, and departments

  • Directly manage department employees and support their development

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

  • The position directly supervises all employees in the Materials Management Department, including Purchasing and Central Services.

 

Physical demands

 

  • Continuously requires vision, hearing, twisting, and talking. Frequently requires standing, fine dexterity, sitting, and handling. Occasionally requires walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, bending, and crouching. Rarely requires climbing.

 

Travel required

 

  • None.

 

Required education and experience

 

  • Associate Degree or above with emphasis on business administration, economics or a related field (experience may be accepted in lieu of a college degree)
  • At least 2 years of recent experience in a purchasing or materials management role in a healthcare environment (preferably a hospital)
  • At least 2 years of experience in managing staff and building teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven knowledge of inventory and purchasing practices associated with the healthcare industry, specifically hospital materials management

 

Preferred education and experience

 

  • Bachelors Degree
  • 3-5 years of recent experience in a Materials Management leadership role
