Young Harris College Invites applications for Head Athletic Trainer. Head Athletic Trainer Assures compliance with all NCAA and Conference Carolinas rules and regulations; encourages academic achievement of student-athletics; coaches the team; creates an environment that promotes compliance, sportsmanship and civility and oversees all administrative functions of the program. 
 
Develop and supervise overall athletic training program of the College.
 
Evaluates physical condition and advises and treat student athletes to maintain maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition by performing the following duties.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
 
	- Develop and manage the athletic training facility, budget and policies to maintain optimal health, safety and welfare of all student athletes. Including: prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student-athletes.
 
	- Schedule and coordinate athletic training coverage for all team practices which may include attendance at scheduled team practices, home and away contests.
 
	- Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.
 
	- Responsible for the formation of the college’s athletic training staff, including hiring, training and supervision of assistant/associate athletic trainers, graduate assistant athletic trainers, intern athletic trainers, and work study students.
 
	- Administers and oversees the care, prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries to all student-athletes. 
 
	- Manages and supervises athlete training staff.
 
	- Organizes and maintains all medical records in accordance with federal and state regulations.
 
	- Develops and maintains emergency action plans. 
 
	- Maintains student-athlete insurance information. 
 
	- Maintains good communication with the insurance providers and manages all paperwork required for claims. 
 
	- Coordinates the purchasing and use of all equipment and supplies needed for the operation of the athletic training facility.
 
	- Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes. 
 
	- Make appropriate physician’s referrals and appointments. 
 
	- Organizes and administers drug testing per department policy.
 
	- Help monitor weather conditions and dangerous environmental conditions.
 
	- Adheres to Conference guidelines, including visiting team accommodations and services.
 
	- Ensure the Athletic Department staff maintains First-Aid, CPR and AED certification.
 
 
 
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:                                                    
 
Directly supervises assistant athletic trainers, intern athletic training students, and work study students. Oversee the athletic training department staff: assistant athletic trainer, graduate assistant athletic trainers, student workers and insurance coordinator.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:                                                   
Master's degree or equivalent; and 3+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Language Skills                                                 
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence including rehab plans and SOAP notes.  Ability to speak effectively before faculty, staff, students, parents, and/or Board of Trustees.
 
Reasoning Ability:                                            
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
 
Computer Skills:       
Successfully use injury tracking software and SWAY concussion testing software. This is an essential function and used daily.                                         
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: 
  1.  National certification and State licensure as an athletic trainer.
 
Other Skills and Abilities:                                             
  1.  First aid/CPR certified (BLS); this is an essential qualification.
