Job Title:     Digital Content Specialist

Department:     Marketing

Reports to:     Creative Director

Status:     Regular, full-time, exempt from overtime

 

The Houston Symphony is seeking a dynamic social media professional to lead the creation and management of both paid and organic content across all digital channels. This role collaborates across departments and with external partners to craft compelling campaigns, track performance through analytics, and authentically connect audiences to the Symphony’s music, mission, and community impact.

 

 

What you’ll do at the Houston Symphony

  • Create and manage all organic and paid social media (including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and future platforms as appropriate.)
    • Coordinate with the Marketing department on identifying key messages, campaign information, and timelines to establish a strategic social media content calendar.
    • Work closely with contracted digital marketing agencies to provide all content and maintain ongoing and upcoming paid marketing campaigns.
    • Collaborate with Development, Education and Community, and Artistic Operations teams to support and execute social media initiatives and requests.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of messaging strategies and timing through social media analytics, A/B testing, and sales data. Communicate key insights to support informed decision-making and provide reporting to stakeholders as needed.
  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing, Director of Web Experience, and Creative Director to ensure social media content aligns with corresponding website content and landing pages, and that digital campaign materials are delivered on time and tailored to the appropriate audience segment and campaign schedule.
  • Assist the Creative Director in facilitating creative projects that support social media content such as video production and photography.
  • Oversee coordination with artistic/operation department, education department, guest artists, and musicians on scheduling social media interviews, filming, and photography for social media content.
  • Manage public-facing customer service responses that take place in both paid and organic social media with support from the marketing and patron services staff as needed.
  • Maintain strong connections across the organization to keep on top of story and content opportunities and attend rehearsals, concerts, special events, and education events for social media coverage as needed.
  • Work concert duty as required by the marketing and communications team (approximately once or twice a month, involving evening/weekend hours).
  • Perform additional duties as required by the Houston Symphony.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, communications or related field
  • 2-4 years of digital marketing and social media management experience
  • Expertise in developing and executing social media strategies aligned with best practices for businesses
  • Previous experience developing integrated digital marketing strategies and executing campaigns including production of digital content, promotion, and logistical support
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Google Ads/GA4 and Meta advertising
  • Demonstrated experience in leveraging social media analytics tools to track performance, conduct A/B testing, and generate data-driven reports to inform strategy and optimize digital campaign effectiveness
  • Creativity and a strong sense of judgment related to quality photography, videography, and copywriting
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to work on under tight deadlines and on multiple projects at one time
  • Strong problem-solving skills, communication skills, and the ability to work independently
  • Experience in the performing arts and passion for music is a plus
