Summary:
The database administrator for our Tessitura database is responsible for managing the analysis, development and integrity of our SQL server-based database. This position supports and provides information to the Development, IT and Marketing departments through the management of the patron/donor database information. She or he will be a champion of database integrity, training others within the organization to uphold data standards.
Essential Job Duties:
- Manage Tessitura release cycles, including planning and staging of beta versions and dissemination of new features to stakeholders
- Co-chair the Houston Symphony Tessitura Users Groupa cross-departmental team that collaborates on Tessitura priorities
- Develop cross-departmental understanding of business processes and data needs
- Provide technical support and information related to Tessitura and related applications, including Analytics and Revenue Management Application (RMA)
- Apply creative and innovative solutions to work to maximize the capabilities of Tessitura
- Work independently to provide strategic solutions to given problems/requirements
- Provide training and support for Tessitura related applications for the organization, including but not limited to basic ticketing and development use standards, list management, output sets, and extractions.
- Create customized Tessitura output set elements and list criteria
- Collaborate with departments to build new (or modify existing) financial, analytical, demographic and customized reports using MS SQL, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Integration Services (SSIS). Focus on user needs in defining user requirements and retrieving accurate information/reporting from data sources.

Database Integrity Duties:
- Maintain or create Houston Symphony specific documentation of the Tessitura infrastructure and data standards to promote optimal database integrity
- Train employees on database standards, including proper account set up and updating
- Develop SQL procedures to automate data cleanup projects wherever possible, such as address and email corrections.
- Oversee the identification and merging of duplicate accounts within the database, as well as the conversion of households to individuals as needed (and vice versa). Train staff to upkeep.
- Administer quarterly National Change of Address (NCOA) and phone appends
- Ensure that CRM database processes are legally compliant
Duties in Conjunction with Development Staff:
- Monitor the creation of campaigns and appeals for the development team, in conjunction with the finance department
- Oversee the creation of Tessitura plans and custom tabs
- Provide Tessitura technical support and assistance to ensure high availability for donor/patron needs.
- Import annual fund ask amounts into Tessitura for season ticket renewal and acquisition mailings
Duties in Conjunction with IT Staff:
- Work with the IT team to provide technical support, optimize data connectivity and application availabilty
- Monitor database performance; provactively recommend and develop custom monitoring scripts based on the Houston Symphonys use of database
- Manage database application upgrades and regular service pack upgrades as necessary
- Backup, restore, archive, create and maintain application test plans and document the process
- Plan and document procedures for disaster recovery and database administration specific to Houston Symphony
Duties in Conjunction with Marketing Staff:
- Prepare data output for season ticket renewal direct mail files and seat-back cards
- Provide Tessitura technical support and assistance to ensure high availability for donor/patron needs.
- Work with Patron Services Center to uphold the highest level of data integrity
- Assist with complex extractions that require SQL queries
- Process monthly Marketing database backup for research purposes
- Work with Marketing interns to oversee Analytical research projects
