Accounting Staffer

Overview:

Sports Basement offers a fun environment for staff to share their love of the outdoors with co-workers and customers as well as a variety of unique benefits that allow staff to live healthy, active, fun lives. The Accounting Department plays a critical role in the company. It’s responsible for facilitating prompt, accurate payments to vendors for products/services in order to keep shipments flowing into our stores. We are looking for someone eager to roll up their sleeves and contribute to the team as Sports Basement grows.

Profile:

Sports Basement is looking for a full-time Accounting Staffer. This is an entry level position in the Accounting Department with a focus on Accounts Payable. Sports Basement processes thousands of invoices per year between inventory and non-inventory (services, utilities, etc.) vendors. To help facilitate this, we’re looking for someone who loves numbers, solves problems quickly, and isn’t afraid of a 10-key. This is a fairly data-entry heavy position. 

Location/Schedule:

• Based full-time out of our Corporate HQ in San Francisco’s Presidio. 
• Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm

Duties include:

• Posting invoices in our ERP (SAP), verifying accurate pricing and quantities for all deliveries.
• Prepare weekly vendor payments, including checks and credit card authorizations. 
• Process and route incoming mail from PO box. 
• Collaborate with buyers, receivers, vendors, and floor staff to resolve product shortages, cost discrepancies, or other issues that may arise.
• Providing support to credit card companies to dispute chargebacks. 
• Review and confirm accuracy of daily cash deposits.
• Perform vendor statement reconciliations to ensure timely and accurate payments.
• Assist with month- and year-end financial close tasks.
• Provide support to store operations during peak seasons or events (sales floor, marketing events, receiving, fulfillment), gaining exposure to customers, products, and the broader business.

Compensation:

Compensation is dependent upon experience and expected ability to excel at the job, but the initial pay will range from $20-$23, along with Sports Basement’s outstanding benefits package and potential for advancement in a growing company.

Requirements:

• Must be proficient in Google Sheets and Excel. SAP experience a plus.
• Accounting experience and/or education preferred but not required.
• Basic understanding of invoices, purchase orders, receipts, and three-way match concepts.
• Basic analytical skills and comfort working with numbers (invoice totals, pricing checks, etc.).
• Ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism.
• Comfortable performing repetitive tasks while maintaining high accuracy.
• Strong communication skills — written (email) and verbal. We need to maintain great relationships with our customers (vendors, buyers, receiving, stores).
