Location: Bryson City, NC  

Compensation: $20-$25, depending upon experience and certifications

Job Summary: The role of the Cleaning Manager is to ensure the overall cleanliness of the train cars is completed in a timely fashion while in accordance with safety and sanitary procedures. Have a knowledge and understanding of company policy and procedures ensuring compliance. Provide leadership and effectively manage a team demonstrating company core values and ethics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and controls all cleaning departmental activities to ensure the goals and objectives are reached and consistent with established company policy and procedure.
  • Participates in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and terminations for the department.
  • Create a positive work environment by demonstrating and expecting appropriate conduct.
  • Conduct formal and informal staff evaluations, as requested while providing performance feedback on a consistent and continual basis.
  • Schedule appropriate staff according to cleaning needs and train car line up. 
  • Inspect train cars to ensure the cleanliness reflects the company standards.
  • Manage the routine deep cleaning process of the train cars ensuring all tasks and responsibilities are completed.
  • Monitor staff ensuring that communications and behaviors demonstrate the expectations set forth in the Company Handbook and Standards of Clean. 
  • Monitor and document personnel actions that may require a promotion, lay-off, termination, coaching, or other disciplinary action.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with GSMR policy, procedures, and safety program including safety rules, operating rules, and elect a member of the department to attend regular safety meetings.
  • Initiate and complete all required paperwork and recordkeeping in a timely manner providing accurate reports to accounting, payroll, HR, and senior management, as requested.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with coworkers and guests.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of all cleaning supplies and equipment while communicating supply needs and/or equipment issues to the department manager.
  • Monitor schedules to ensure all departments are staffed adequately while managing labor.
  • Ensure that the MSDS are available to staff and are up to date with all chemicals and appropriate literature. 
  • Report any and all safety hazards, accidents, injuries by following proper reporting procedures. 
  • Implement and adhere to all safety guidelines associated with state regulations.
  • Ensure all supplies and equipment are returned to the cleaning cage and proper closing procedures are followed upon completing of each shift. 
  • Know and enforce company policies and procedures. 
  • Direct, oversee, and accomplish all special projects requested by GM and/or AHR/GSMR senior management.
  • Other duties as requested by VP/GM, and/or AHR/GSMR senior management.

Work Environment:

  • Work on and off the train in varied terrain in all weather during both daylight and dark hours.
  • Good balance/equilibrium: walk on moving trains, graveled, uneven, and/or sloped surfaces that may be wet/slippery while carrying supplies.
  • Utilize and operate general office equipment, Word, Excel, Email, printer/copier/scanner, two-way radio, and golf cart.
  • Utilize cleaning equipment such as vacuum, dusting tools, mops, brooms, and various cleaning materials and chemicals. 

Qualifications

Education, Skill, and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of cleaning experience.
  • Previous cleaning management and/or supervisory experience, preferred. 
  • Awareness of OSHA standards.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English, possessing good leadership and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to manage people.
  • Ability to build and lead a team by providing strong work ethics, values, and leadership attributes while promoting a “teamwork” environment. 
  • Must be willing to develop and implement strategies to achieve the overall goals of the cleaning department. 
  • Must be highly motivated, detailed oriented, task-based, and highly effective with time management. 
  • Ability to perform duties that include but are not limited to lifting 40 lbs. or more, bending at the knee, reaching above the head, kneeling, climbing ladders, and crawling. 
  • Ability to pass pre-employment DMV check, and background check.
