Position Summary
The Career Transition Services Specialist provides individualized transitional support and placement services to students, with the goal of securing full-time employment, higher education enrollment, or advanced training opportunities. This role works closely with Career Technical Training and Career Transition teams to address and remove transitional barriers, ensuring student success after Job Corps. The Specialist also develops relationships with employers, community leaders, and educational institutions to expand opportunities for students.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personalized career counseling, mentoring, and case management for assigned students during the Career Transition phase.

  • Develop, monitor, and update student transition plans to ensure successful post-program outcomes.

  • Collaborate with Career Technical Training and Career Transition staff to deliver comprehensive support services.

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, and educational institutions to secure quality, industry-relevant employment opportunities.

  • Support assigned students in achieving placement goals while ensuring compliance with DOL/Company performance standards.

  • Conduct effective community job development activities to expand employer networks.

  • Maintain accurate student records and ensure integrity of all data and reporting.

  • Provide guidance, feedback, and accountability to students while modeling the Career Success Standards.

  • Address and resolve issues that may impact student success, exercising sound judgment and discretion.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of programs, services, and student outcomes.

  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats with students, staff, employers, and stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with all departments to ensure coordinated student services and supervision.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Center Director or designee.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, human services, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience considered.

  • Previous experience in career counseling, workforce development, education, or job placement strongly preferred.

  • Strong relationship-building skills with students, employers, and community partners.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.

  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with case management systems.

  • Support assigned students in achieving educational, vocational, and placement goals.

  • Ensure program operations meet or exceed Department of Labor (DOL) and Company performance standards.

  • Build and maintain supportive mentoring relationships with students during the Career Transition phase.

  • Provide individualized career counseling and assess student progress to guide successful outcomes.

  • Develop, monitor, and update comprehensive student transition plans.

  • Establish and maintain business and community partnerships to create quality, industry-relevant employment opportunities for students.

  • Supervise and manage student populations effectively, addressing behavioral issues promptly while modeling professionalism, respect, and accountability.

  • Deliver high-quality programs and services, continuously seeking improvements to meet student needs.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally in both oral and written formats; contribute meaningfully to team discussions and collaborative projects.

  • Provide timely, accurate reports and updates to DOL/Company as requested.

  • Identify problems, analyze root causes, and recommend or implement effective solutions; follow up to ensure resolution.

  • Collaborate with staff across all departments to provide coordinated supervision and services for students.

  • Accept and carry out assignments from the Center Director or other supervisors, including temporarily performing duties in other departments as needed.

  • Consistently produce accurate, thorough work within required timelines.

  • Maintain high standards of attendance, accountability, and productivity.

  • Organize and prioritize tasks to meet established goals and deadlines.

  • Stay current with job-related knowledge and skills to ensure effective performance.

  • Model, monitor, and mentor students in accordance with the Career Success Standards outlined in the PRH.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
