Job Title: Dental Assistant Supervisor 

Department: Dental 

Reports To: Specialty Services Manager 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Summary: 

Dental Assistant Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation and high-quality patient care within our dental clinic. This position combines direct patient care responsibilities with significant leadership and administrative duties.  Act as a working supervisor, floating on the floor to ensure efficient daily operations in the department and cover staff as needed (illness, breaks, lunches, etc.). Provide education, coaching and training for Dental Assistants. Manage staff issues including performance related issues, HR related issues, etc. Escalate to and collaborate with HR as needed.  

Dental Assistant Leadership & Development 

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Dental Assistants, promoting a positive and productive work environment that prioritizes outstanding patient care. 

  • Act as a resource and first point of contact for Dental Assistants, resolving daily operational issues, addressing concerns, and mediating conflicts effectively. 

  • Develop and manage dynamic staff schedules to ensure optimal coverage, support departmental goals, and meet patient care demands. 

  • Oversee the training and professional development of Dental Assistant Trainees, guiding them through the licensure process and ensuring their successful integration into the team. 

  • Collaborate with Human Resources on performance management, disciplinary actions, and other HR-related matters, ensuring compliance and fair practices. 

Clinical Operations & Resource Management 

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels of dental supplies, instruments, and equipment, ensuring the clinic is consistently well-stocked to provide seamless patient care. 

  • Oversee sterilization processes and protocols for instruments and equipment, upholding the highest standards of infection control and patient safety. 

  • Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, coordinating with internal stakeholders and vendors for repairs and maintenance to minimize disruptions to clinic operations. 

Process Optimization & Quality Improvement 

  • Partner with clinic management and leadership to identify and implement innovative solutions for operational challenges and process improvements within the dental department. 

  • Lead or contribute to initiatives focused on enhancing staff satisfaction, improving the patient experience, and promoting the fiscal sustainability of our dental services. 

  • Actively participate in quality assurance activities, contributing to the development and implementation of best practices to elevate patient care standards. 

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent, Successful completion of an accredited dental assistant program, registered as a Dental Assistant with the State of Washington. Current Basic Life Support certification.  

  • Experience: Two or more years of experience as a Dental Assistant. Previous Supervisory experience preferred.  

  • Skills: Proficiency in Epic Wisdom systems, excellent communication skills, strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and ability to multi-task.  

  • Language: Requires good verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to speak and read the English language.  

Physical Demands: 

  • May require prolonged standing, sitting, some lifting of equipment. 

  • May require prolonged use of fine motor skills to support direct patient care 

Work Environment: 

  • Fast-paced community health center setting, potential exposure to infectious diseases, interaction with diverse patient population.
