Job Summary:
The Extended Day Assistant supports the after-school Extended Day program by creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for students in preschool through eighth grade. This position is responsible for supervising students, facilitating structured and unstructured activities, supporting transitions, and contributing to a positive program culture. The role requires flexibility, reliability, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a dynamic school setting.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Supervises students in preschool through eighth grade during Extended Day programming, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
- Assists with planning, preparing, and leading age-appropriate activities such as arts, crafts, games, and other enrichment opportunities.
- Provides support to students during homework time, structured play, and enrichment activities.
- Monitors and engages students during outdoor play, enforcing established playground and behavior expectations; reports notable student behaviors as needed.
- Fosters a positive, respectful environment that supports social-emotional growth and collaboration among students.
- Manages daily transitions, including arrival and dismissal, while maintaining accurate attendance and ensuring student safety.
- Participates in daily setup and cleanup of program spaces and materials.
- Serves as a classroom substitute for absent teachers on occasion, if qualified.
- Actively engages in the life of the school and contributes to community-wide events and programs.
- Upholds and models the mission, values, and strategic priorities of STS.
- Demonstrates respect for diverse perspectives and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with students, families, and colleagues.
- Collaborates across departments and participates in team meetings to support a cohesive pre-K through eighth grade experience.
- Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with discretion.
- Adheres to school policies and procedures and performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Athletics and After-School Programs.
