FLSA Status: Seasonal, Exempt

Pay: $690 - 805 stipend

Season: 10/31/25 – 1/26/26

Practices: Thurs 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Games: 11/8, 11/9, 11/15, 11/16, 11/22, 11/23, 12/6, 12/7, 12/13, 12/14, 1/10, 1/11, 1/17, 1/18

Job Summary:

The 4th Grade Basketball Coach is responsible for leading practices and coaching basketball games during the season. This role supports the athletic and personal development of student-athletes by promoting teamwork, skill-building, and sportsmanship in a positive and inclusive environment. The 4th Grade Basketball Coach collaborates closely with the Athletics and After-School department to align with school values and ensure a safe, engaging experience for all participants.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Plans and leads all basketball practices for fourth grade.
  • Coaches all scheduled games, including travel to away games, while positively representing St. Thomas School.
  • Promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and individual skill development.
  • Teaches age-appropriate basketball fundamentals, techniques, and strategies.
  • Partners with the Director of Athletics and After-School Programs to support program goals and team culture.
  • Ensures the safety, supervision, and well-being of all student-athletes.
  • Supports player growth aligned with program expectations and core competencies.
  • Communicates clearly with players, families, and the school community about schedules, expectations, and team progress.
  • Manages equipment, as well as oversees court set up and cleanup for practices and games.
  • Actively engages in the life of the school and contributes to community-wide events and programs.
  • Upholds and models the mission, values, and strategic priorities of STS.
  • Demonstrates respect for diverse perspectives and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with discretion.
  • Adheres to school policies and procedures and performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and After-School Programs.

Qualifications

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in education, coaching, or a related field preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience coaching basketball, preferably with elementary–age students.
  • Knowledge of youth athletic development, including age-appropriate skill building and sportsmanship.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a positive, inclusive, and supportive team environment.
  • Ability to actively supervise student-athletes both indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to meet the demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds and engaging in activities such as bending, crouching, or sitting on the ground.
  • Readiness to obtain First Aid and CPR certification, and maintain throughout employment
  • Successful completion of required background checks in accordance with school policy and state regulations.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative, flexible, and growth-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency with basic technology tools and a willingness to learn school-specific systems.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and community of STS.
