Description

The Maintenance Technician reports to the Assistant Facilities Supervisor of CHP Schools and performs routine and extensive preventive maintenance and repair procedures on all the CHP Schools’ buildings, mechanical equipment, and utility systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following is an explanation of the duties of the Maintenance Technician.  It includes the major highlights of the requirements of the position.  There should be a clear understanding that the duties outlined below are not all-encompassing.  Additional responsibilities may be assigned to the Maintenance Technician as required.

  1. Performs minor and major repairs of all buildings and equipment. (Major repairs are performed under outside contractors.) 
  2. Performs minor and major of all buildings and equipment on a scheduled basis; inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc.; repairs or replaces broken parts. 
  3. Replaces broken windows, repairs doors, door locks, and closets; installs window blinds. 
  4. Completes daily, weekly, and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures. 
  5. May operate a computer that controls and monitors mechanical equipment and utility systems. 
  6. Installs wiring and equipment, new electrical services, wiring during remodeling projects, and replaces and repairs wiring as needed. 
  7. Repairs electrical equipment and control circuits; replaces faulty electrical switches, and repairs refrigeration equipment. 
  8. May repair electrical locks and control panels to maintain building security.
  9. May install computer cable. 
  10. Under the direction of the Building Engineer, may complete maintenance of HVAC equipment and others, as needed. 
  11. Applies preventive measures to the building to reduce future maintenance or facilities concerns. 
  12. Fixes potential safety hazards to avoid injuries. 
  13. Completes paint jobs around the facilities. 
  14. Repairs broken or leaking plumbing to avoid water damage and restores full use of water fixtures. 
  15. Performs laborious tasks such as repetitive bending, lifting, pulling, pushing, or carrying objects and materials. 
  16. Uses and cares for hand and power tools utilized in building trades. 
  17. Supports in the mowing, edging, trimming and watering of lawns, fields, or other turf grounds. 
  18. Supports the planting, cultivation, pruning, fertilizing, and irrigation of flowers, trees, grass, and shrubs.
  19. Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
  20. Assists with renovation/remodeling of buildings, repairs plaster, repairs drywall, and paints building structures.
  21. Maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
  22. Performs outside custodial duties such as trash removal and snow removal as required. 
  23. May obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts, and order parts as needed.

Education, Training, and Experience

  1. High school diploma or higher degree.
  2. Minimum of five years experience in plumbing, electricity, or maintenance of commercial or residential properties.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  1. Valid driver’s license.

  1. Meets all ongoing requirements as identified by the agency and Human Resources.
