Summary: Directs traffic in parking lots, conducts visitor registration and screening. Ensures the safety and protection of students, employees, and property. Patrols and inspects campus including parking lots, buildings, teaching facilities and grounds to ensure campus safety and prevent damage to or loss of school and employee property. Transport students in school vehicles to various locations and reasons. Posts at a check-point station or Front Desk for parking lot and occupant safety. 

Essential Job Functions: 

CAMPUS SAFETY

  • Conducts routine tours of campus by walking and driving to ensure security, and watches for conditions that could result in injury or loss due to fire, water leakage, spills, etc; escorts visitors as requested. 
  • Completes incident reports when required; records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences.
  • Registers visitors, issues name tags, contacts employees and requests escorts, as needed.
  • Reports to manager any unusual or suspicious condition detected.
  • Assists in properly responding to emergencies in order to preserve life and property.
  • Opens or locks doors, windows, and gates at proper times based on campus schedule.
  • Reports any incidences of visitor, driver, student, or employee actions which could result in injury or loss to school or employees.
  • Required to participate in all safety training (e.g., first aid, CPR, AED), including professional development.
  • May be required to adjust hours, and/or cover schedule openings.
  • Required to work several mandatory events throughout the school year, including some weekends.
  • May be required to work some major holidays to help maintain 24/7 coverage.

TRANSPORTATION

  • Directs traffic, assists with and delegates parking, issues daily parking permits.
  • Transport students for bonafide school activities and athletics, or handicap assistance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with mail and package deliveries when school is not in session
  • Assist Facilities Department with occasional “non-trade” tasks.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in the security, safety, or law enforcement field (preferred).
  • California Guard Card (preferred, but not required).
  • CERT qualified or equivalent emergency response training (preferred, but not required).
  • American Red Cross first-aid and CPR course, or equivalent preferred (will be trained here).
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license for at least three years, and a clean driving record.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.


Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • MICROSOFT OFFICE – Proficient in Microsoft programs. 
  • GOOGLE WORKSPACE – Proficient in Google programs.
  • FIRST AID – Ability to provide first aid or CPR if needed
  • PROBLEM SOLVING & ANALYSIS – Ability to identify problems, conduct appropriate analysis and reach effective solutions commensurate with level of responsibility.

  • INITIATIVE/PROFESSIONALISM – As a first-responder, must be able to react appropriately under emergency and other stressful situations.  Professional presentation and a friendly, yet assertive, disposition are required.
  • LEARNING POSTURE – Must maintain a learning posture and embrace change and growth individually and institutionally.  Expected to participate in professional development training and the annual employee retreat.

Physical and Environmental Conditions: 

  • Must be able to walk hills, stairs, and stand for a long period of time, or for long distances.  Work requires considerable walking to complete tours. Works primarily outdoors often in inclement weather.
  • Requires a majority of time (over 50%) to be spent walking or standing. 
  • Requires some driving, in a sitting posture, for at least 1 hour.
  • Able to lift and twist at least 50 pounds.
