Position Summary:

Contributes to the Risk Management (RM) plan by identifying, analyzing, and reducing professional and general liability risks for LAMMICO’s insured facilities (Long Term Care (LTC), hospitals, and other facilities). Participates in the development and implementation of the RM program as assigned. Working in collaboration and under the guidance of the Sr. LTC Specialist, the Facility Risk Manager will conduct on-site assessments and visits to identify risk exposures and further develop relationships with insureds.  Ensures that LTC, hospitals and other facilities participate in LAMMICO RM education.  Provides live/webinar lectures for facility insureds in the assigned area. Analyzes LTC facility loss data and collaborates with Underwriting and Risk Management departments to conduct renewal and other assessments. Serves as a facility expert to help retain LAMMICO’s facility book of business. Maintains current knowledge of facility regulations and state and federal audit and survey requirements.

Reporting Relationship:

Reports directly to the Vice President of Risk Management

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Works in a cooperative manner with management, coworkers, customers, and vendors; seeks to support LAMMICO’s mission and vision in daily operations
  • Contributes to the development of the department’s strategic and operating planning and meets assigned target dates and objectives; helps ensure that department quality, service and productivity standards are met
  • Conducts review and analysis of medical malpractice claims for LTC, hospital and other LAMMICO insured facilities
  • Conducts risk assessments for facilities and provides insureds with loss reduction interventions  that are consistent with RM principles
  • Provide in person or on the phone RM consultation to assigned facilities   
  • Develops and presents live and online RM education seminars for healthcare facilities including LTC, hospitals,  and other facilities
  • Conducts loss analysis for assigned facilities based on internal and external data/information
  • Evaluates assigned facility losses and makes comparisons to the book of business to draw conclusions for developing and implementing loss prevention and loss control interventions
  • Reports to the assigned Committees regarding insureds risk profile
  • Serves as RM facility expert to LAMMICO insureds

• Builds relationships with insured facility staff by visiting them onsite on an ongoing basis in assigned territory

Collects, reviews, and summarizes current facility data and risk profile information on an annual basis and as requested for Underwriting review

Secondary Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Other responsibilities and special projects as assigned
  • Attends LAMMICO seminars presented by physician specialists
  • Attends seminars/conferences for LAMMICO as assigned

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Skills

Required:

  • Must live in or near the Dallas area 
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in nursing
  • Current RN license
  • 5 years of experience in  healthcare facility management  or  healthcare quality improvement
  • 6-8 years of experience in nursing
  • Available for overnight travel; frequent travel up to 50% of the time with some overnight stay required
  • Formal presentation skills to small and large audiences
  • Experience dealing with physicians, healthcare administration and/or other healthcare professionals
  • Experience with data analysis
  • Strong customer focus and team orientation
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive company information
  • Commitment to continuing industry and individual functional education
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact and work effectively with employees at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to manage time, set priorities and work independently; ability to organize, analyze, and interpret information
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Programs
  • Must have continuous and uninterrupted access to reliable transportation; must maintain driver’s license and insurance as required by state

Desired:

  • Current Nursing Facility Administrator License
  • 5 years of experience in healthcare facility administration
  • ARM and/or CPHRM certifications
  • Insurance industry experience
  • Experience in medical malpractice arena
  • Master’s degree in healthcare or insurance
