About PLAN

PLAN (People Living Active Now), a program of Jewish Family Service of Dallas, provides recovery-focused support for adults living with SMI (serious mental health illness).  PLAN @ 1121 Rock is an accredited, full-time Clubhouse following Clubhouse International standards and also operates the PLAN Connections team.

Role Purpose

The Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) uses lived experience and knowledge of the Work-Ordered Day (WOD) to inspire hope, model recovery, and support members’ goals in community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote PLAN and Clubhouse values, culture, and member expectations.
  • Collaborate with the PLAN Connections Case Manager to link new and existing participants to community resources.
  • Use peer support skills (motivational interviewing, appropriate self-disclosure, compassionate listening, trauma-informed care) to support members’ wellness and community integration.
  • Model healthy interactions, boundaries, and recovery practices during the WOD.
  • Follow established curriculum and documentation for sessions in the UTSW RISE (Recovery through Inspiration, Support, and Empowerment) program.
  • Work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team; complete timely, accurate documentation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Texas MHPS certification in good standing (current)
  • Self-identifies as having lived experience with mental health recovery and can appropriately share aspects of that experience to educate, role model, and instill hope
  • At least 1 year maintaining personal recovery/wellness
  • Meets and maintains all required credentials and trainings per Texas regulations
  • Able to navigate healthy boundaries while working on the PLAN Connections team within a Clubhouse environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Clubhouse International standards and the Work-Ordered Day
