POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with individual donors and prospects capable of making significant contributions to advance Jewish Family Service of Dallas’ mission. Reporting directly to the Chief Advancement Officer and working closely with the development team, the MGO manages a portfolio of major donors, develops tailored engagement strategies, and helps build a strong pipeline of philanthropic support. The ideal candidate is a strategic, relationship-driven fundraiser with a deep commitment to strengthening communities and supporting the work of JFS Dallas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help our donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a meaningful relationship with our organization
  • Maintain a personal portfolio of major gift prospects (defined as those giving a gift of $5,000+).
    • Serve as the primary relationship manager for this portfolio of prospects, developing and implementing a written donor strategy; ensure that each major donor and prospect has a clear strategy and timeline for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
    • Communicate with portfolio donors through face-to-face cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship meetings, and written communications
    • Attend program and fundraising activities as needed, including evenings and weekends.
  • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database, Raiser’s Edge, and wealth screening tools
    • Provide complete and accurate activity reports on moves management on a regular basis that include detailed call reports, revenue forecasts, data analytics, and other accomplishments.
    • Prepare profiles of current and prospective donors; maintain relationship record of all interactions; establish and refine benchmarks for department research processes as needed
    • Ensure proper donor recognition in all publications and oversee accurate donor lists for those publications.
  • Develop and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with the senior leadership team, advancement team, board, and volunteers.
    • Support the fundraising efforts of the Chief Advancement Officer and Chief Executive Officer in securing new and renewed annual, endowment, and planned gifts
    • Work with other members of the Development team to align efforts and set goals
    • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team on mailed/emailed solicitations
    • Collaborate and engage the program department heads in donor cultivation and stewardship to bring the philanthropic potential of JFS Dallas’ work to donors.
    • Serve on agency & board committees as assigned
    • Foster employee relations by creating an atmosphere of collaboration, consulting, and communication

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5+ years of major gifts experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent skills in MS Word, Outlook and Excel, plus donor databases (specific experience in Raiser’s Edge a plus)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills, ability to work as part of a team and/or facilitate work groups required
  • Experience in nonprofit development and networking
  • Ability to work some evenings and occasional weekends
