What will my day-to-day responsibilities look like? 

As a Human Resources Generalist, you’ll be at the heart of connecting talent with opportunity and ensuring a smooth HR experience for all employees. Your daily responsibilities include: 

  • Planning and participating in recruitment and community networking activities, posting job listings, and updating requisitions in the Applicant Tracking System. 

  • Researching and implementing innovative recruitment methods to attract qualified candidates. 

  • Reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and exercising independent judgment to select candidates, schedule follow-ups, and make job offers. 

  • Conducting background and reference checks, drug screenings, and maintaining applicant documentation. 

  • Leading new employee orientation and providing coaching to management on disciplinary procedures. 

  • Tracking and reporting workers’ compensation claims, liaising with employees, supervisors, and insurance carriers as needed. 

  • Teaching designated training classes (e.g., CPR/First Aid) and maintaining training documentation. 

  • Monitoring employee status reports, including licensure, performance appraisals, and compliance with employment laws. 

  • Maintaining personnel files, HRIS records, and generating reports as needed. 

  • Partnering with employees and management to communicate HR policies, procedures, and legal requirements. 

  • Performing other duties as assigned to support the HR team and the mission of the Arc.

What do I need to be successful in this position? 

 

We’re looking for a knowledgeable and motivated Human Resources Generalist who is ready to make an impact! 

  • Professional understanding of HR operations, including recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, employee relations, policy implementation, worker’s compensation, and benefits. 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive business records. 

  • Skilled in computer software for HR record-keeping and running employment reports efficiently. 

  • Strong ability to plan and deliver trainings for staff. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with employees, management, and the public. 

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion while working with minimal supervision. 

  • Licensed and insured driver, able to travel infrequently within Missouri. 

  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed. 

  • Ability to perform basic physical tasks such as bending, standing, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 20 lbs on an infrequent basis. 

Education & Experience: 

  • At least two years of experience in a human resources capacity or human resources generalist capacity is required. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field is preferred.

HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST

 

Definition

The human resources generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level.  This individual exercises extensive independent judgment and discretion. This position carries out human resources responsibilities in an assigned division of The Arc of the Ozarks in the following functional areas: training, recruitment, onboarding, policy implementation, and employment law compliance – with an emphasis on recruitment and onboarding.  The human resources generalist is an exempt, salaried position. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Plans and participates in recruitment and networking activities in the community. Updates requisitions as needed within the Applicant Tracking System.
  • Posts job listings on various online platforms.
  • Reviews applications, following up with candidates in a timely manner, conducts interviews to match experience with specific job-related requirements.
  • Exercises sound independent judgement in determining qualified candidates and appropriate next steps including but not limited to scheduling 2nd interviews, making job offers, conducting background checks, and drug screenings.
  • Maintains applicant documentation.
  • Conducts new employee orientation.
  • Teaches designated training classes to employees including but not limited to CPR/First Aid class, and Documentation (Therap), performs associated data entry of logging employee class completion and other training documentation.
  • Coaches management staff on the appropriate disciplinary procedures consistent with agency policy and practice.
  • Independently reports, maintains and monitors workers compensation claims. Appropriately communicates with employee, supervisor, and/or insurance carrier as needed.
  • Tracks and compiles employee status reports including appropriate licensure, performance appraisals, etc.
  • Ensures their assigned division is compliant with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Partners with employees and management to communicate various human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and other government regulations.
  • Maintains employee personnel files.
  • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.
  • Provides front desk coverage of the receptionist area as needed.
  • Provides accounting support by utilizing Microsoft Excel to enter client debit card transactions, and monitors Therap to ensure client receipts are uploaded appropriately.
  • Other duties as assigned by Assistant Director of Human.  

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Professional knowledge of the operations of a human resources department related to recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, employee relations, policy and procedures, worker’s compensation, benefits, or other pertinent functions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in business dealings and records management.
  • Knowledge and skills in utilizing computer software to maintain computerized record keeping.
  • Ability to run various reports on employment data accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to plan and carry out various assigned trainings.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a harmonious working relationship with the public, agency management anf other personnel.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively and clearly communicate in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion and to work with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Licensed and insured driver.
  • Ability to travel within the state of Missouri on an infrequent basis. 
  • Able to work occasional evening or weekends as job duties demand.
  • Ability to bend, stand, stoop, push, pull and lift items up to 20 lbs on an infrequent basis.
