AFM’s team of professionals is focused on meeting client needs by providing a complete range of forestry services including land and wildlife management, land sale and acquisition services, forest inventory and design, growth and yield modeling, cash flow projections, environmental and farmland services, appraisal, forest resource data management and harvest scheduling. 

Full-time position – Responsible for providing appraisal services primarily in the Pacific Northwest Region of the United States. This position will work closely with the Senior Appraiser in the region. The position will work remotely but would be expected to meet with the Senior Appraiser in person at least monthly for the first year. Minimum of 40 hours per week required, out of town and overnight work will be required (expenses paid), participation in training and coursework necessary to achieve appraisal license(s) will be required.

Responsibilities and Job Requirements:

All aspects of field work, office work, analysis, and reporting required for completing appraisal assignments.  

  • Perform appraisal services offered in a competent, efficient and professional manner
  • Establish credible valuations of rural property types through examination and research.
  • Manage the appraisal process from the acceptance of an assignment to delivering results to client
  • Meet client expectations in terms of timeliness and quality
  • Maintain/enhance the quality of appraisal services offered
  • Follow established processes and standard procedures
  • Enhance or develop new processes and standard procedures based on current appraisal trends
  • Maintain licensing and education proficiency as required by state agencies, accrediting organizations and the Appraisal Services Group
  • Maintain comparable sales data, cost data, timber price data and other resource information required to develop accurate value conclusions 
  • Act as a representative of the Appraisal Services Group to clients

Additional Requirements:

  • Physically capable of walking short distances, opening gates, performing field inspections (including some reconnaissance in wooded settings), measuring improvements, driving long distances 
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and GIS software.
  • Skill in research and analysis of public records.
  • Skill in research and communication necessary for property analysis Required travel throughout the Pacific Northwest region of the US
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Vehicle that is safe and able to operate on public and private roads (paved, gravel, dirt) necessary to access properties and perform field inspections

Qualifications:

  • Forestry education and/or experience required
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Forestry, or 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in another field with a 3+ years forestry background.
  • Experience with timber growth and yield/harvest scheduling software desirable; Remsoft software preferred 
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Applicant will work towards obtaining an Appraiser Trainee or similar license immediately and then a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser license within state-established timelines. (Typically 3 to 5 years)
