This position requires HSD/GED, Bachelors Degree is preferred OR CASAC or CASAC-T required. One to two years of experience in substance abuse treatment or prevention setting. Understanding of the pharmacological dimensions of addiction and substance abuse, including HIV infection, transmission, and disease. Theoretical knowledge of a clients psychological and physical needs, and an understanding of group work practices and principles. Knowledge of statutory benefits and support services available in NYS. Must have exceptional communication skills both orally and in writing, with individuals and groups regarding complex and sensitive issues. The physical ability to perform essential job functions is needed. In addition, the Harm Reduction Substance Abuse Counselor shall perform any duties as required to meet the needs of the program and the clients that we serve.
