Description

The Northbrook Park District is seeking a passionate and experienced Drama Instructor to inspire creativity, confidence, and a love for the performing arts.

This position is responsible for teaching assigned classes in a designated program area, within established program guidelines and while providing the proper guidance and support for each participant. Class instruction may vary based on level of expertise of students/attendees and age range of students/attendees. May instruct classes for children through adult age. Demonstrates commitment to the Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles of the District.

 

Pay & Schedule:
$25.00 - $35.00 Per Hour

This is a part-time, non-exempt position, starting with two classes each Saturday from 10:00 AM -11:00 AM and then 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Classes run from 11/1 - 12/20 (no class on 11/29)

Additional teaching opportunities may be available in the upcoming Winter 2026 season.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements lessons or schedule supporting the established program curriculum.

  • Actively engages all students and provides support and constructive feedback.

  • Tracks attendance records and documents student progress, when required.

  • Prepares students for end of session shows or recitals as needed.

  • Prepares students/attendees for games as needed.

  • Arrives before class start time to inspect instruction space, set-up equipment and supplies if needed and greet students.

  • Regularly updates Leisure Services Supervisor on the condition of the teaching space and equipment.

  • Plans and organizes class routines, projects, performances, recital(s), when required.

  • Diligently follows and adheres to all safety policies and procedures.

  • Collaborates with internal and external customers in a positive manner.

  • Follows safe work practices.

Qualifications

Degree from four-year college or university with major course work in the subject area being taught, or supplemented by four (4) years teaching experience or experience working in the program area; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills.

 

Skills & Abilities

  • Lead and interact positively with children and adults

  • Teach through demonstration of specific subject matter being taught

  • Can work independently and efficiently

Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of subject material being taught

  • Hands-on experience working with children

  • District safety policies and procedures
