Summary

Directs and participates in the maintenance of the three golf courses including tees, greens, fairways, bunkers, cart paths and the rough. Maintains playing conditions to the highest possible standards set forth by Ibis. Assumes responsibility in the absence of the Assistant Superintendent. Provides outstanding service to members and guests in a professional and courteous manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervises and directs daily work assignments for the team.
  2. Inspects the course setups and conditions daily, reports deficiencies such as disease and unhealthy turf to Golf Course Superintendents.
  3. Formulates, monitors, and participates in irrigations, chemical, and fertilizer applications.
  4. Maintains clear communication throughout the day with Director of Agronomy, Golf Course Superintendents, and Assistant Superintendents.
  5. Assists with irrigation applications, scheduling, and parts repairs.
  6. Oversees the cleanliness and organization of the maintenance facility, equipment, and tools.
  7. Operates equipment as directed, when necessary.
  8. Trains new employees and documents each training session.
  9. Conducts safety meetings to ensure that safety standards are met. Upholds standards and enforces proper usage of equipment by team.
  10. Performs other duties assigned by Director of Agronomy and/or Golf Course Superintendents.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience                                                 

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Turf Management degree/or currently enrolled preferred. Prior golf course maintenance experience recommended.

 

Language Skills                                                

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  

 

Mathematical Skills                                                      

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability                                             

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills                                                

  • Basic MS Office skills required
  • Experienced with Rainbird and Toro irrigations systems (Ibis is a beta test site for Toro’s system)
  • Knowledge of inventory software, preventative maintenance software, and order processing systems

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • State of Florida pesticide license is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Familiarity of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations in regards to safety, environment, fuel storage, and other stored and used hazardous materials,

 

Other Skills and Abilities                                              

  • Knowledge of operation of mowing equipment, tractors, aerifiers, sweepers, sprayers, and miscellaneous hand tools.
  • Knowledge of cultural practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of fertilizers, chemicals, and soil conditioners is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the usage of all golf course maintenance equipment.
  • Knowledge of the game of golf.
