POSITION: SENIOR RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Senior Residential Counselor is responsible for leading and providing care and support to residents in their home. They are responsible for facilitating a warm, supportive environment conducive to the residents to learn, at their own pace, skills leading to greater personal independence and selfesteem. Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Senior Residential Counselor must be flexible and able to follow routines of the home and individual care plans. The primary responsibility is to ensure the health, safety and happiness of the residents in the home. Must be able to follow all medical and care plan guidelines.
KEY AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY: To assure daily residents' routines and health care guidelines are adhered to.
¨Assists residents in daily adult daily living skills. Including but not limited to:
· Grooming, personal appearance and hygiene.
· Meal planning and preparation.
· Housekeeping and sanitation.
· Interpersonal relationships.
· Use of community resources, and leisure resources.
· Communication and emergency procedures.
· Health and safety precautions (first aid, universal precautions).
¨ Participates in case conferences and development of Individual Planning meetings to monitor and ensure health, safety and progress of residents.

¨ Develops and participates in daytoday activities and educational programs with residents, assuring that they are consistent with:
· Normal routines of daily living.
· Principles of rights, dignity and respect of all persons, both residents and counselors.
· Established policies, procedures and philosophy of Abilis.
· The residents' Individual Support Plan.
¨ To assure daytoday activities and specific educational programs will:
· Be planned and coordinated between all staff.
· Reflect interests/preferences of the residents.
· Be communicated to residents so they understand their responsibilities.
· Provide for followthrough by residential personnel and residents.
· Coordinate with settings in which the resident may be involved, including:
· vocational
· educational
· religious
