Position Overview

The Family Engagement Specialist reports to the Clinical Manager and works in the North San Fernando Valley area with children 6 weeks - 5 years old and their families in a preschool setting and home visitation, when necessary, to assess their needs, identify goals, and direct them to available resources. The Family Engagement Specialist develops mutually trusting relationships with teachers and staff, children and families, acts as an advocate for families, and provides support services as needed.

Statement of Duties

  • Provide case management services to families from intake to referrals to direct services related to areas of mental health and continued education and vocational programs, nutrition, parenting, wellness, early childhood education (ECE), and health.
  • Create and review progress of family goals, develop individualized care plans, and suggest interventions and/or resources including follow-up.
  • Model appropriate advocacy skills for parents in working with community agencies, professionals, and schools.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to provide comprehensive, integrated services for families.
  • Work collaboratively with families and other community agencies to provide a full system of care to meet the needs of each family.
  • Report to the Clinical Manager to identify families that will need individual therapy and assign them to services with the intern therapists
  • Document all contacts, interventions and services provided for clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with specialization in social work, psychology, child development or related field is preferred or 10 years commensurate experience
  • At least 1 year of experience working with families and knowledge of Early Childhood Education
  • Knowledge of local community resources in North area of San Fernando and how to access services for families with children ages 0-5
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of client information
  • Travel occasionally to conduct business (office errands, meetings, etc)
  • Be available when needed during possible classes and groups from 5-7pm
  • Bilingual in Spanish required
