Position Purpose:


This position exists to support the organization as a whole by performing various accounting functions that ensure the financial integrity and reputation of Family Tree with an emphasis on the management of government grants.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Prepare and monitor grant billings in accordance with various rules, regulations, and deadlines, including forecasting future grant activity, timely financial reporting, compliance with various regulations, and acting as a financial liaison with internal teams and external government funders
  • Run projections to ensure proper grant spending
  • Prepare grant/funder budgets as necessary
  • Various month end activity such as journal entries and reconciling accounts
  • Serve as backup for full-cycle accounts payable and payroll in compliance with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations

Other Duties:


  • Assist in the annual audit, single audit, and 990 process
  • Assist in grant/funder audits/monitorings
  • Participate in team meetings and planning
  • Cross train with other team members and cover duties in their absence
  • Represent Family Tree, Inc. in a professional and informational manner at all times
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of all Family Tree, Inc. programs and services
  • Adhere to all Family Tree, Inc. established policies and procedures
  • Ensure the confidentiality of clients and employees, as appropriate, is maintained

 

 

 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A working knowledge of GAAP, Federal Uniform Administrative Requirements and Cost Principles, and Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA). Must possess excellent attention to detail and be able to manage multiple concurrent deadlines and prioritize in a high-volume, fast-paced, energetic work environment. Team player skilled as an independent thinker and problem solver.

Education or Formal Training:


Minimum two years’ experience in accounting, including fiscal administration of grant awards preferred. Must have an excellent working knowledge of accounting software and proficient in Excel, Microsoft Word, and Windows operating systems. Not-for-profit experience a plus.

Working Environment:



Position requires the ability to communicate with staff, vendors, and funders. This is a 40 hour a week position, with the option for some remote work days. 

Physical Activities: 

This position requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer, calculator, telephone, photocopier and other similar office equipment. Physical demands associated with the essential functions include sitting, reaching, handling, talking, hearing (ordinary conversation), and seeing (far and near acuity, depth perception, field of vision and accommodation).  This position may require repetitive action such as typing at a computer for a significant amount of time.
