As a key member of the Aquatics team, a Water Fitness Instructor is responsible for proactive communication and maintaining a safe pool atmosphere while preventing accidents. The main purpose of this position is to instruct YMCA Water Fitness classes and provide a positive role model in a well-organized, professional attitude and appearance. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful and welcoming nature. 
  • Excellent customer service and verbal skills    
  • Consistent positive attitude
  • Ability to work with all age groups and ability levels
  • Maintain all required certifications
  • Be on deck 15 minutes prior to class to greet participants; get all equipment set up before class begins and put away after class ends
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required by Director

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Team player with personal commitment to the YMCA Mission, Philosophy, & Character Development Values
  • Provide safe and challenging Water Fitness classes to our members
  • Minimum 18 years of age and show the technical ability to lead a water fitness class
  • Stay informed and knowledgeable in the area of water fitness/healthy lifestyles
  • Responsible for scheduled shifts and, if necessary, follow the appropriate substitute procedures
  • YMCA Water Fitness Certification or AEA equivalent (within 6 months of employment)
  • People centered, service oriented

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Be able to project voice and hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment
  • Have the ability to teach both on deck as well as in the pool 
  • Be able to work in a wet/humid environment and come in contact with chlorinated water
  • Be able to lift at least 25 pounds
  • Noise level-High
