As a key member of the Aquatics team, a Swim instructor teaches both youth and adults swimming techniques & pool safety, and is responsible for proactive communication and maintaining a safe pool atmosphere while preventing accidents. Â The main purpose of this position is to provide a positive role model for members and to create a character-developing atmosphere. Â
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
- Must be able to remain alert
- Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals
- Ability to teach with patience and caring attitude
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations
- Must be able to remain in water for long periods of time
- Responsible for scheduled classes/shifts & for following appropriate substitutes procedures
- Arrive 15 minutes prior to class start time to set up and greet participants
- Clean up all equipment and pool deck after classes have ended
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required by the Aquatics’ Director
