Systems Engineer 1

The salary and level for this position will be determined after the interview, based on relevant experience and skills. 

Hours for this position are: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Role 

Under the guidance of senior staff, assists in supporting the organization's servers, workstations, clusters, storage systems, and peripherals. Keeps current with the latest systems administration and security trends to provide an efficient, performant, and secure environment. Takes direction from senior staff and management.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Assists in supporting the maintenance, configuration, security, and reliable operation of computer systems, servers, storage, virtualization, and Service Center equipment. Implements and tests system security and access
• Assists with troubleshooting hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing the impact of issues. Interacts with the service desk and other teams to assist in troubleshooting, identifying root causes, and providing technical support when needed
• Monitors systems for security vulnerabilities and proper operation
• Coordinates with vendors and/or other staff to help address system issues in a timely manner. When necessary, escalate issues to senior staff or management
• Assists with the maintenance of system hardware and software at the disaster recovery site and provides technical support for disaster recovery testing
• Participates in architecture and technology planning and design decisions
• Assures prompt response to and recovery from systems and server-related production interruptions across multiple hardware platforms, networks, and operating systems
• Continuously grows professionally and obtains new skills through mentorship and training
• Identifies opportunities to improve the company's and its customers' services through new products and technologies
• Anticipates system and server security/integrity risks and assures adequate safeguards
• Ensures system users, user environment, and directories are provisioned, updated, and maintained regularly using established procedures
• Completes established goals, daily tasks, and project deliverables on time and to specification
• Assists with implementing and managing security measures to protect against unauthorized access, breaches, and threats. Works closely with security personnel to respond to security incidents and vulnerabilities
• Participates in the planning and executing of disaster recovery and business continuity plans
• Serves as an on-call resource to troubleshoot network issues for a 24/7 operation

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration OR
• A combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions may be substituted
