POSITION TITLE: Athlete Relations Manager

REPORTS TO: Chief Marketing Officer

DATE: May 12, 2025

FLSA STATUS: Part-time, non-exempt; averages 15 hours per week with flexibility up to 25 hours, as needed
PAY RATE: $26-$30 per hour

 

SUMMARY:

The Athlete Relations Manager is responsible for building and managing connections between Olympians and Paralympians and opportunities facilitated by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum. This includes securing athlete participation in both USOPM-hosted events and external/private client events held at the Museum. This role ensures the successful recruitment and coordination of athletes for all Museum programming and paid appearances. The Manager will manage all outreach, communications, and contracting with athletes.

 

This individual will also help manage the Museum’s internal athlete database—maintaining up-to-date records on athlete availability, interests, and engagement history, while actively expanding the network of athletes interested in participating in Museum and partner programming.
 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Athlete Engagement Coordination

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients interested in engaging an Olympian or Paralympian through the USOPM.
  • Identify and match athletes with paid opportunities tied to USOPM-hosted events as well as external events and rentals held at the Museum.
  • Maintain and grow a comprehensive athlete database.
  • Proactively recruit additional athletes into the Museum’s network through outreach and referral.
  • Support logistics and communications to ensure smooth coordination between athletes, clients, and museum staff.

Business Development & Opportunity Generation

  • Collaborate with the Development, Events, and Marketing teams to anticipate athlete engagement opportunities.
  • Work alongside our Events team to secure athletes for corporate groups, tour organizers, and media for athlete appearances.
  • Track inquiries and engagements to help assess demand and potential areas of growth.
  • Elevate awareness within the Olympic and Paralympic movements of the Museum’s role in creating paid opportunities for athletes.
  • Facilitate all communication, negotiation, and contracting between hiring entity and athletes.

Communications and Representation

  • Occasionally represent the USOPM in media interviews and at events, speaking to the value of athlete engagement.
  • Help promote available athlete opportunities via USOPM’s digital channels, in coordination with marketing staff.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work closely with museum staff to ensure athlete involvement aligns with organizational priorities and guest experience.
  • Report regularly to the Chief Marketing Officer on engagements, demand trends, and budget usage.
  • Assist with briefings, presentations, and content development to support fundraising and other external outreach.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be an Olympian or Paralympian.
  • Experience with client relations, event management, or athlete representation preferred.
  • Background in business development, sports marketing, or communications a plus.
  • Familiarity with contracting services. Comfort discussing fees and necessary attention to detail to facilitate business engagements.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage athletes, clients, and stakeholders professionally.
  • Passion for helping fellow athletes succeed in life beyond sport.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Experience maintaining records or databases preferred.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and media engagement.
  • Self-starter with a collaborative spirit.
