JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

 

The Emergency Services Safety Specialist is an entry-level position responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety protocols and procedures within emergency services operations. This role conducts field inspections, testing life-safety systems, and conducting safety training, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This position works with the Director of Emergency Services and the Risk Manager to ensure OSHA Safety procedures are being followed. Must have a knowledge of OSHA General Industry requirements.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)

 

  • Document and maintain records on all fire, life and safety training
  • Complete and maintain master training lists for all Tribal Government team members.
  • Draft and maintain standard operating procedures when related to safe working practices.
  • Maintain fire, life, and safety/OSHA training manuals. Update fire, life and safety maps and distribute throughout all Tribal Government properties.
  • Ensure and coordinate annual testing on fire, life and safety equipment; e .g. risers, Gaylord, fire extinguishers, fire panel, etc.)
  • Maintain, order and re-supply first-aid stations and other fire, life and safety equipment.
  • Ensure safety inspections throughout all properties are completed as required.
  • Perform mandated CPR, AED, Naloxone and First Aid & Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Perform/Oversee mandated OSHA training reequipments.
  • Respond to and investigate employee work related incidents and near misses.
  • Member of Emergency Services Response Team & EOC Team.
  • Must adhere to all Tribal Ordinance and Regulations

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

  • High school diploma.
  • Valid California State Driver’s License
  • Minimum 2 years of advanced education and 2 years Occupational Health and Safety experience preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Instructor certified preferred or within 1 year of employment.
  • OSHA 511 certificate (General Industry) required.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to stand, move and work throughout the office area and properties, including walking up to 2 miles, climbing stairs and sitting at a desk/work station for the duration of the shift. Must be able to work in a “lighting subdued” environment for extended periods of time. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions to include extreme heat and cold weather.

 

Typically, the individual will be spending extended periods in the field conducting property inspections with approximately one-third of the time spent working in the office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to grasp, bend, lift and/or carry or otherwise move goods weighing a minimum of 25 lbs. on an intermittent basis, and sufficient dexterity of hand in order to use office equipment including, but not limited to: a computer keyboard, calculator, general office equipment and multi-line telephone
