Position Overview:
The College of Mathematics and Science at Charleston Southern University is offering NSF-supported research opportunities for graduate assistants (2 positions) and undergraduate research assistants (2 positions). These positions will provide hands-on experience in cutting-edge research at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Ontology Development, Large Language Models (LLMs), and Software Engineering.

What You Will Do / Learn

  • Use LLMs to extract and structure knowledge from software artifacts

  • Build and evaluate ontologies for software evolution

  • Contribute to AI-enabled web application design and development

  • Gain experience in project planning, documentation, and research presentation

 

 


Hours:

Part-time, temporary positions approximately 0-16 hours per week. All appointments are semester-based and contingent on performance, project needs, and funding availability. 


Compensation:

Graduate Research Assistant

  • Monthly Stipend equivalent to approximately 16 hrs/week plus tuition remission/scholarship may be included (per policy & funding).

Graduate Assistant

  • Hourly rate of $12 with a maximum 16 hours per week 

Undergraduate Research Assistant

  • Monthly Stipend equivalent to approximately 8 hrs/week plus tuition remission/scholarship may be included (per policy & funding).

Undergraduate Assistant

  • Hourly rate of $12 with a maximum 8 hours per week

Additional Notes:

  • Dr. Songhui Yue’s research team is recruiting motivated undergraduate and graduate students for
    an NSF-supported project on automated ontology construction for software evolution using large
    language models (LLMs).
 

Eligibility/Requirement(s):

 

  • Undergraduates: junior standing or above; Graduates: enrolled and in good standing
  • GPA  3.0 (maintained)
  • Demonstrated interest in research (AI/ML, NLP, or software engineering.
  • Basic Python and Git skills
  • Experience in AI development and an interest in pursuing graduate study are a plus
  • In a program within the Computer Science department at CSU for at least one semester
