POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Accountant will assist Controller with the oversight of the accounting operations of the agency, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. The Senior Accountant is responsible for direct supervision of assigned accounting team members. Must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide leadership and guidance to accounting team members, including setting performance expectations, monitoring progress, and providing regular feedback and coaching.
  • Supervise delegated balance sheet reconciliations ensuring that all are prepared timely, accurately, and presented in a professional manner.  Ensure that outstanding items are researched and resolved within 30 days.
  • Assist personnel with mental health billing process.
  • Prepare monthly prepaid, fixed assets, and employee benefit reconciliations.
  • Record monthly depreciation and prepaid allocation entries.
  • Process workers comp and 403b transactions.
  • Collaborate with HR personnel on outstanding benefit reconciliation items.
  • Assist with preparation of annual agency, contract and governmental grant budgets.
  • Assist the Controller with month-end and year-end close.
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of the annual financial audit.
  • Assist in the compilation of information for Sunbeam’s annual 990.
  • Assist Controller with the development and implementation of policies and procedures with emphasis on internal controls, process improvement and efficiencies, and compliance with uniform guidance and federal regulations.
  • Crosstrain with other department members.
  • Travel locally as required in the performance of responsibilities.
  • Attend bi-monthly Policy Council meetings as scheduled.
  • Perform other appropriate and related responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS            

 

Minimally Required

Preferred

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

Master’s degree in Accounting

License / Certification

Certified Public Accountant (current in Oklahoma)

 

Experience

At least three (3) years of accounting experience

 

Experience with federal grants

Experience using Sage Intacct Accounting Software

Experience using Paycom

Nonprofit accounting experience

Experience supervising staff

Skills KnowledgeAbilities

Ability to work and communicate in a professional manner, demonstrating dignity and respect for our internal, external and community members

Excellent analytical skills

Knowledge and understanding of GAAP/Accounting Processes

Ability to analyze financial reports and forecasts

Ability to handle and prioritize a variety of work assignments

Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel

Ability to exercise initiative, work independently and exercise critical thinking skills

Established skills in accuracy and organization

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

A strong desire to learn all facets of the accounting process

Demonstrated ability to support all other departments within the company and coordinate training and information sessions

Process, protect and exercise discretion in handling confidential information and materials

Valid Oklahoma driver’s license and state required vehicle insurance for any vehicle used in performance of job duties

Advanced Microsoft application knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and understanding of early childhood education programs

Knowledge and understanding of Uniform Guidance

 

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS                                                            

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently communicate with staff and others and must be able to exchange accurate information when doing so. The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, attend meetings, etc. Must be able to operate and use a computer. Occasionally must be able to move needed materials weighing up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment

The employee will work in an office environment, in close quarters with other staff.  The noise level in the work environment varies from moderate to loud; occasional chaotic situations may occur.
