Description

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic leadership and oversight of the finance and human resources functions across three nonprofit entities, each with its own board of directors. The CFO is responsible for ensuring fiscal accountability, compliance with GAAP, FASB, and other regulatory guidelines, and aligning financial strategy with the mission and long-term goals of Iris Family Support Center.

This executive role requires advanced knowledge of nonprofit accounting, grant management, and the ability to lead and mentor a high-performing finance team. The CFO plays a key leadership role at Iris, fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and mission-driven excellence.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Serve as a key advisor to the CEO, COO, and Board of Directors on financial planning, forecasting, and strategic initiatives.

  • Lead the financial management of three distinct nonprofit entities, ensuring the integrity of financial operations and compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Assess the financial viability of current and future programming, partnerships, and grant-funded initiatives.

  • Develop financial models and business plans that support the agency’s growth and sustainability.

Financial Operations & Oversight

  • Direct all fiscal activities including budgeting, cash flow forecasting, monthly and annual reporting, and audit preparation.

  • Provide accurate and timely financial statements and reports to the executive team and Board.

  • Oversee and refine internal controls, risk management, and financial policies.

  • Lead the organization’s budgeting process in collaboration with program directors, coaching them on financial stewardship and accountability.

Grant Management & Revenue Tracking

  • Oversee all grant-related accounting functions, ensuring accurate tracking, compliance, and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds.

  • Monitor grant revenue streams and ensure expenditures align with funder guidelines.

  • Coordinate closely with program leadership and development staff to manage financial aspects of grant applications, renewals, and audits.

  • Ensure systems are in place for timely and accurate invoicing, reimbursement tracking, and financial documentation for all funding sources.

Human Resources Oversight

  • Partner with the HR team to ensure policies, benefits, compensation, and compliance reflect current labor laws and best practices.

  • Provide strategic input on workforce planning, organizational structure, and employee development.

Team Leadership & Organizational Culture

  • Manage and develop the finance and HR teams, fostering professional growth and accountability.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to align financial management with organizational goals.

  • Promote a culture of excellence, ethics, and continuous improvement across departments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.

  • 5–10 years of progressive finance leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.

  • Demonstrated expertise in nonprofit accounting, grant management, and fund tracking.

  • Proven ability to analyze financial data, present insights, and guide strategic decision-making.

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local compliance requirements for nonprofits.

  • Familiarity with FASB regulations, GAAP, cost accounting, and financial audits.

  • HR management experience or knowledge is a strong plus.

  • High proficiency in accounting software and financial systems; experience with ERP or grant management platforms a plus.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Primarily a sedentary office role with computer use exceeding four hours daily.

  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.

  • Minimal travel may be required for meetings, audits, or trainings.

Schedule & Location:

  • Full-time, exempt position (40 hours/week); flexible schedule permitted with CEO approval.

  • Hybrid or in-office options may be discussed.
