Description

The CHILL Coach provides personalized supportive services to tenants with the goal of helping them overcome barriers to self-sufficiency and independence. This role involves building trusting relationships, developing individualized service plans, and connecting tenants with appropriate resources to promote housing stability, employment, education, mental and physical health, and community integration.  This position is also responsible for activities, workshops and community events, that involve independent living and self-sufficiency.

 

Mentoring & Empowerment:

  • Serve as a positive mentor and role model for tenants.

  • Empower tenants to solve personal challenges using problem-solving and goal-setting skills.

  • Use a solution-focused approach during crises and major life events, offering emotional support and growth opportunities.

  • Promote leadership development, community participation, and tenant-driven initiatives.

Tenant Engagement & Activities:

  • Implement and facilitate a schedule of tenant-focused activities to build community, life skills, independence, self-sufficiency, and foster positive social interactions.

  • Host regular events and workshops; manage sign-in sheets and document participation.

  • Engage tenants positively when addressing behavioral or community issues; de-escalate situations and handle issues promptly and respectfully.

Case Management & Support Services:

  • Carry a caseload of 10 -20

  • Conduct and document the following assessments with tenants:

    • Individual Development Plans

    • Casey Life Skills Assessments

    • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE)

    • Family Matrix

  • Conduct intakes with tenants

  • Coordinate and monitor case plans and progress toward goals.

  • Assist tenants in accessing resources related to:

    • Mental health care

    • Health insurance

    • Employment

    • Educational and entrepreneurial opportunities

    • Financial Assistance

    • Life Skills Training

    • Public assistance programs

    • Community referrals and support services

  • Ensure confidentiality and HIPAA compliance in all tenant interactions.

  • Maintain timely and accurate case notes for all face-to-face interactions and significant developments.

  • Advocate for tenant needs with service providers and community partners.

  • Encourage and support tenants in achieving and maintaining housing stability and independence.

  • Enter tenant’s information into HMIS

Crisis Response & Incident Management:

  • Address noise complaints, disturbances, and minor emotional or mental health issues immediately.

  • Provide first-level support for minor health concerns (non-emergency).

  • Administer emergency evacuation procedures as needed.

  • Submit written incident reports to the Supervisor; send email alerts when urgent follow-up is needed.

Facility Oversight & Team Collaboration:

  • Participate in team meetings, operations meetings, and collaborate with other service providers.

  • Support general cleaning duties in shared areas (e.g., lobbies, kitchen, office).

  • Ensure all facilities (offices, conference rooms, fitness center, bathrooms) are locked and secured at the end of shift.

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional office environment located within an apartment complex. The role involves regular, direct interaction with tenants, including children and families, as well as with community partners and service providers. The CHILL Coach must be comfortable working in a dynamic, residential setting and engaging with a diverse tenant population daily.

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk or hear and listen.

  • This is mostly a sedentary role. Would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stoop as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products, job fair materials and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Expected Hours of Work

  • Work hours are 4pm – 8pm

  • Workdays are Monday – Friday.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in social work, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field (or equivalent professional/lived experience).

  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in case management, mentoring, or supportive housing programs.

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and solution-focused approaches is preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access.

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g., copier, fax machine, scanner).

  • Strong attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofreading written materials.

  • Excellent spelling, grammar, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • High level of interpersonal skills to manage sensitive, confidential, or crisis situations with professionalism and empathy.

  • Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks effectively.

  • Demonstrated ability to always maintain professional boundaries and a high level of confidentiality.

  • Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals experiencing housing instability, mental health challenges, or substance use.
