Purpose: The Electrical Estimator is responsible for reviewing estimating opportunities, completing project take-offs, and ensuring estimates and quotes are completed promptly and accurately.  There may be an opportunity for project management exposure as well.

 

Essential Duties include the following: 

  • Reviews drawings for layout, location of existing devices, assessment of extra costs needed to complete a project correctly, etc.
  • Reviews specifications for project due date and identifies the need for bid bonds, minority requirements, etc.
  • Obtains vendor quotes for all estimates to ensure proper materials/equipment are included in the estimate.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key vendors and product manufacturers
  • Develops and maintains relationships with general contractors
  • Follows up on 100% of delivered bids and requests feedback
  • Determines the amount of labor hours needed to complete the project
  • Determine extra job expenses for front-end summary sheets (temporary trucking, permit, lost time, etc.)
  • Fully completes take-offs, calculating all labor, material, and equipment needed. 
  • Creates accurate and detailed scope letters for all estimates
  • Review quotes with management before submitting to review final costs, scope letter, value-added engineering, etc.
  • Attends 100% of estimating and operational meetings
  • Conducts walk-throughs to determine site conditions before estimating projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering/Construction Mgmt./Eng Mgmt. or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Experience with Design/Build electrical projects.
  • Ability to understand electrical codes and standards 
  • Ability to understand and interpret blueprints
  • Ability to use estimating software and MS Word applications
  • Ability to plan and coordinate workflow
  • Ability to exercise attention to detail
  • Possesses strong organizational abilities 
  • Ability to effectively communicate both in written and verbal format

Physical Requirements:

  • Performance of the job may require sitting, handling items, and working with fingers to type, complete paperwork, and handle other administrative functions. 
  • May be asked to walk, stand, talk, and hear others in conversation by phone or in person.
  • Must be able to drive to various customer sites as required.

Work Environment:

  • May vary due to Project Assignments. 
  • Primarily, well-lit, heated, and/or air-conditioned office setting with adequate ventilation.
  • Employees may experience heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow exposure on job sites.
