We are looking to hire a full-time Day Habilitation Trainer for our Cedar Rapids. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and six months of full-time employment in a related field. A bachelor’s degree in education, therapy, nursing, English, art, recreation therapy, social sciences, science, physical education, or history may be substituted for required experience.
Day Habilitation Trainers help participants with barriers to independence explore their community by taking them for lunch, grocery shopping, swimming, fishing, volunteering, and more. Day Hab Trainers use agency vehicles and public transportation for all community activities. This is a direct support position, with Day Hab Trainers helping clients develop skills such as cooking, writing, sewing, sign language, and other skills they might need or want to learn. We are looking for candidates who have a passion for helping others to round out our diverse staff. In addition to working closely with participants, Day Hab Trainers complete daily documentation on participant progress.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized training for specified participants in Goodwill’s Day Habilitation program.Â
- Function as a member of the day habilitation team in development of goals and objectives to maximize independence, growth, and quality of life for those participating in day habilitation services.Â
- Monitor client performance on goals and assist in preparation of progress reports and other verbal or written reports.Â
- Develop and implement accommodations and assistive devices as needed.Â
- Accurately complete documentation and reports requested by counselors, funders, and the bookkeeping department.Â
- Provide back-up supervision in other training areas as needed.Â
- Provide transportation and supervise outings for clients to maximize community integration.Â
- Provide physical care as needed- including the monitoring and management of client medications.
