If so, you might be a good fit for our part time Career Navigator position based at our Cedar Rapids Center. This position works closely with a local school district and will primarily be responsible for setting up work experience opportunities for students with disabilities to help identify career interests as they prepare to transition to the adult world.Â
Career Navigators serve as program and case managers for program participants. They are assigned to a caseload and aid in completing intakes, assessments, and other required documentation. Career Navigators help program participants identify required training tools and skills to develop a comprehensive career plan, and from there, they will administer interest and skill-based assessments as needed. Career Navigators support and guide participants to achieve their goals and ultimately gain employment in their targeted career. Career Navigators work closely with area employers to identify opportunities for students to explore and gain experience in their chosen career pathway.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as program manager for participants assigned to caseload completing intake, assessment and other required documentation.Â
- Identify appropriate assessment and training tools to assist participants develop a comprehensive career plan, administering interest and skill-based assessments to participants as needed.
- Develop comprehensive Individual Service Plan for each participant, utilizing motivational interviewing techniques.
- Assist participant to complete their service plan, connecting the participant to support services as needed, supporting and guiding participants to achieve the steps in their plan and ultimately to gain employment in their targeted career.
- Work with external funders to provide services in accordance with their funding, completing necessary reports and service records as required.
- Assist participant with business connections, providing access to job shadows, internships and other activities that will help them meet their career goals.
- Assist participant with obtaining employment, providing the necessary supports for each individual.
- Schedule on the job support as needed with job coach or employer support.
- Provide referrals to outside resources to assist program participants with the supports needed to be successful.
- Maintain records, complete required paperwork and record data as needed to track participation, outcomes and obtain fees, when appropriate.
- Provide follow up supports as required for each participant, identifying and procuring support needs to help each individual for one year past job placement.
