JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Men’s Lacrosse Coach is responsible for teaching and coaching student athletes to develop and acquire the extensive tactical, technical and physical knowledge required to be a competitive NAIA intercollegiate level student-athlete. Assist the head coach in skill evaluation, instruction, planning, organization and supervision of individual and team practices and intercollegiate athletic competitions. This is a full-time 11-month position.

 

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Support the Head Coach: This includes assisting with daily tasks, planning practices, and helping with game preparation and any other team-related tasks deemed necessary.
  • Coaching and Instruction: Instructing players on techniques, strategies, and conditioning, and providing one-on-one feedback. (Preference is a coach whose specialization leans defensively)
  • Scouting and Analysis: Assessing player performance, scouting potential recruits, and analyzing opposing teams.
  • Administrative Duties: Handling paperwork (primarily related to the recruiting process), managing equipment, and communicating with parents, etc.
  • Team Development: Fostering a positive team environment, motivating athletes, and promoting good sportsmanship.
  • Game Day Support: Assisting during games, including managing player rotations, providing on-field support, and assisting with post-game analysis.
  • Recruiting: Assisting with the identification and recruitment of new players.
  • Athletic Training and Supervision: Monitoring athlete performance and supervising training sessions.
  • Mentoring and Developing Athletes: Guiding and mentoring student-athletes throughout the season, both on and off the field, to include but is not limited to maintaining GPAs and eligibility.
  • Scheduling and Logistics: Managing travel arrangements, coordinating practice schedules, and ensuring compliance with team rules.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business, science or closely related field.
  • Must have served as a high school and/or college lacrosse coach.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours which may include early/late hours, occasional weekends, and the ability to travel.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and must be insurable by the College’s insurance carrier.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must work well with others in a team setting and be willing to take on extra duties as assigned.
  • Must communicate effectively with all types of people and establish and maintain a strong working relationship with students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff and other college personnel.
  • Must have knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations.
  • Must have the ability to work responsibly with minimal supervision.
  • Must have some working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and overall skills with computers and technology.
  • Must be willing to work and lead by example in a non-abusive and non-threatening manner.
  • Required to report any athlete / team issues that are detrimental to the team, department, or college. Any illegal activities must be reported immediately.
  • Must be willing to work within and follow the guidelines of Columbia College, and the Department of Athletics at all times.
  • Must learn and be familiar with all existing processes and work excellently with the Admissions and Financial Aid Departments when recruiting and maintaining student-athletes.

  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Must have strong organizational and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; excellent interpersonal skills.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work requires the ability to move and lift 30 to 50 pounds independently and be able to perform strenuous physical labor, and the ability to exert 30 to 50 pounds of force frequently.  May be required to use a ladder.  Also requires frequent bending, squatting, standing, reaching, climbing, kneeling, stooping, crawling, and occasional sitting.  May be required to occasionally work in small, hard to reach spaces.  Work is performed both inside a facility and outdoors in all weather conditions.  Some hazardous situations may exist based on work to be performed.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work environment may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, disease/pathogens, toxic/caustic chemicals.
