POSITION: Senior Supervising Attorney
REPORTS TO: Director, Immigration Legal Program (“ILP”); Executive Director for Community Services
CLASSIFICATION: Full Time
STATUS: Salaried Exempt
Position Summary: The Senior Supervising Attorney will provide immigration legal information, consultations, and application assistance to asylum seekers and other immigrants. The Senior Supervising Attorney will work with the Director to oversee the work of the Navigators and Attorneys.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
• Assist in the development of materials and programming for services for ILP.
• Train the staff attorneys to conduct legal orientations and provide immigration legal assistance to clients.
• Provide limited scope representation to immigrants through assisting eligible clients to file pro se motions to change venue, change of address, contacting ICE for check-ins, EADs, TPS, Asylum and other urgent immigration legal needs.
• Supervise the Staff Attorneys and Navigators as they assist clients in filing pro se immigration applications.
• Use ILP case management systems, develop necessary systems for client records, and supervise the management of files by staff.
• Participate in weekly staff meetings with ILP team.
• Assist in the recruitment and hiring of Attorneys and Navigators, as needed.
• Assist in mentoring and supervising Immigrant Justice Corps Fellows and law interns.
• Attend relevant trainings and meetings by I-ARC, EOIR, USCIS, DHS, and other agencies to stay current on law and policy. Attorneys will identify similar trainings and meetings that should be attended by non-Attorney staff.
• Attend meetings with MOIA, City Council, ASLAN network, and other partners as needed.
• Supervise the Attorneys and meet 1:1 on a weekly basis.
• Assist with supervising the Navigators and assist both the Navigators and Attorneys with casework while providing legal guidance.
• Responsible for coordinating attorney schedules to ensure sufficient coverage.
