Job Summary

The Purchasing Agent is responsible for the execution of daily purchasing activities to support manufacturing and operations. This includes creating and maintaining purchase orders, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring timely procurement of materials and supplies. The role also supports vendor pricing and data management within our ERP system, helping ensure accuracy across purchase orders, inventory, and cost records.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process and manage purchase orders (POs) for raw materials, supplies, and services
  • Maintain ERP records for POs, vendor data, inventory levels, and pricing updates
  • Assist in negotiating vendor pricing and confirming order details such as lead times and availability
  • Evaluate supplier performance and communicate delays, quality issues, or changes to appropriate internal stakeholders
  • Ensure PO acknowledgments and confirmations are received and accurately documented
  • Collaborate with inventory control, shipping/receiving, and production departments to align purchasing with demand
  • Monitor open orders and follow up to ensure timely delivery and accuracy of goods received
  • Support inventory and cost control efforts by maintaining consistent and accurate data in the purchasing system
  • Research alternatives or secondary suppliers when primary vendors face stockouts or pricing issues
  • Provide reports and analytics on purchasing trends and inventory as needed

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
  • 1–2 years of purchasing, supply chain, or ERP-based procurement experience required
  • Working knowledge of procurement procedures and best practices
  • Experience with vendor communications and PO lifecycle management
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (Paradigm and NetSuite experience a plus)
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a transactional environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong data entry and recordkeeping abilities
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $45,000 – $65,000 annually, commensurate with experience

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based within a manufacturing plant setting
  • May require occasional lifting of materials or samples up to 25 lbs

  • Standard hours Monday–Friday; may require flexibility during high-volume periods
