Position Summary 

Grace Chapel is seeking a compassionate and visionary Director or Pastor of Care to lead and oversee our lay-led care ministry teams. This role is central to our mission of being a church that deeply loves and serves one another, especially in times of need. The Director or Pastor of Care will shepherd our congregation through life’s challenges by equipping and empowering volunteer leaders on each campus to provide spiritual, emotional, and practical support. 

This position has Sunday responsibilities and requires travel to each of our campuses for Sunday worship  on a regular basis. This person will report to our Pastor of Central Ministries. 

This position has the following responsibilities: 

 Care Ministry Leadership 

  • Provide strategic oversight and spiritual leadership to all care ministries, including visitation, grief support, prayer teams, food bank, and crisis response. 

  • Recruit, train, and mentor lay leaders and volunteers to serve effectively and compassionately. 

  • Develop and implement systems for care team coordination, communication, and accountability across all campuses. 

  • Establish and implement a consistent, effective structure and procedures for offering care ministry across all Campuses. 

 Pastoral Care & Counseling 

  • Offer short-term pastoral counseling, spiritual guidance, and prayer to individuals and families. 

  • Respond to urgent care needs, hospitalizations, bereavement, and other life crises through personal connection or coordinating with other pastoral staff to respond. 

  • Collaborate with other pastors and staff to ensure holistic care across ministries. 

 Program Development & Administration 

  • Develop and support new Care Ministry programs that meet the needs of our community and help people work through personal struggles or find their next faith journey step including vetting requests for new support groups, including promoting the group, finding appropriate leaders and effective implementation of new groups. 

  • Design and lead training programs for lay caregivers (Stephen Ministers), including biblical care principles, listening skills, and boundaries. 

  • Maintain records of care interactions and ensure appropriate follow-up. 

  • Evaluate care ministry effectiveness and innovate new approaches to meet evolving needs. 

 Collaboration & Communication 

  • Partner with the Office of the Senior Pastor and staff to align care ministry with Grace Chapel’s overall mission and vision. 

  • Serve as a liaison between care teams and church leadership, ensuring clear communication and shared goals. 

  • Represent Grace Chapel in community care initiatives and partnerships when appropriate. 

  • Collaborate with other Central Ministry Pastors/Directors when appropriate.

  • Communication and Problem-solving: Strong research, communication, and problem-solving skills are crucial in this role.

  • Self-starter: Someone who is entrepreneurial and internally driven to achieve the mission God is laying out for us and able to manage her/himself accordingly.   

  • Team-Builder: Due to the nature of the various ministries of care, Grace Chapel needs a proven team builder to support the teams in place and help campus pastors create new teams on their campuses. 

 

Required education and training requirements 

  • This position requires a minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience as a staff member in a ministry leadership capacity.  

  • A deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a heart for pastoral care. 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent ministry experience required 

  • For Pastor applicants, Seminary degree (M.Div. or equivalent), Pastoral Ministry or counseling degree and relevant ministry experience preferred.  

  • Proven ability to lead and develop volunteer teams. 

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise wisdom in sensitive situations. 

  • A proven leader with natural communication and organizational skills  

  • Able and willing to travel to all campuses on a regular basis to ensure a consistent approach to care ministry  

  • Able to assess ministry needs and develop  plans to meet those needs. 

  • Able to clearly communicate and embrace Grace Chapel’s  mission, vision, values and strategy. 

  • Has a willing spirit to help support each ministry within Grace Chapel to the best of their ability.  

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work in various disparate systems to accomplish goals and objectives
