Automotive Title Clerk – Lum’s GMC

 

 

Are you highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable juggling deadlines? We’re looking for an Automotive Title Clerk to join our team and keep our dealership running smoothly. In this role, you’ll process vehicle sales, prepare and submit legal documents, and ensure every transaction complies with state title and registration requirements. This position is perfect for someone who enjoys precision and paperwork but also thrives in a fast-paced environment where accuracy and follow-through matter.

What You’ll Do

  • Process all new and used vehicle registrations and prepare tax/title documents
  • Submit legal transfer work to the DMV and ensure accuracy of all applications
  • Verify funds are collected and lienholders are paid before processing titles
  • Prepare payoff checks, bill dealer trades, and maintain Certificates of Origin
  • Track, resolve, and report on outstanding title work each month
  • Post vehicle sales and purchases, and process warranties/service contracts
  • Manage yearly renewal of dealer tags and stay current on title regulations
  • Cross-train with teammates and assist in training sales/F&I staff as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (one-hour meal period)

 

 

Pay Range: $20-$25 per hour, starting, depending on experience

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For


  • Prior experience in title processing, DMV work, or clerical/accounting roles preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to catch errors before they become issues
  • Organized and able to manage multiple priorities under deadlines
  • Clear and professional communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Comfortable using office software, spreadsheets, and dealership systems
  • Ability to accept and apply constructive feedback in a fast-paced, direct-communication environment
  • High school diploma required; additional education or relevant training a plus


What It’s Like


This role is primarily desk- and computer-based, with plenty of time reviewing and entering documents. You’ll work under deadlines, handle confidential financial/legal information, and maintain organized systems. Our team is made up of straight-shooters who value clear, direct communication, so being open to constructive feedback is essential. The pace can move quickly, and accuracy matters. Expect occasional trips to the DMV or interactions with sales, F&I, and accounting staff to keep deals moving.


Education & Experience


  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Prior experience in title processing or related clerical work is preferred
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered

Language Skills


  • Read and understand instructions, memos, and short messages with ease
  • Write clear, simple correspondence
  • Confidently share information one-on-one or in small groups with customers, clients, and teammates

Mathematical Skills


  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Calculate rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs to maintain accurate records

Reasoning Ability


  • Apply common sense and good judgment to follow detailed instructions
  • Solve straightforward problems that arise in standardized situations

Physical Demands


  • Mostly desk-based work, focused on computer tasks
  • Occasional walking, standing, and trips throughout the dealership or to the bank
  • Offers a balance of focus, movement, and variety to keep each day engaging
