About the role 

Patrol/EMT/Medical services at the Utah Olympic Park (UOP) is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of guests, athletes, and staff throughout both the summer and winter seasons. This role includes providing first aid, emergency medical services, high-angle rescue, and maintaining safety on trails, slopes, and event venues. This position will also serve as a medical first responder for U.S. National, Development, and international teams in various winter sports, as well as summer activities such as mountain biking and water rescue. 

Major Tasks and Responsibilities 

Winter Season: 

  • Serve as a Medical First Responder for the U.S. National and Development Ski Teams (Ski Jumping, Cross Country, Nordic Combined, Aerials, Moguls, Slopestyle, Skier/Boarder Cross). 

  • Provide medical response for U.S. National and Development Bobsled, Skeleton, and Luge Teams. 

  • Medical First Responder for World Cup, Olympic Trials, National, and Regional Competitions (Ski Jumping, Cross Country, Nordic Combined, Bobsled, Skeleton, Luge). 

  • Respond to medical incidents for the U.S. National and Development Speed Skating Teams for World Cup, Olympic Trials, National, and Regional Competitions (Utah Olympic Oval). 

  • Conduct high-angle rescue operations and participate in rescue training. 

  • Perform avalanche control operations, including snowpack assessments, and explosives use. 

  • Cross-country ski patrol and trail maintenance to ensure a safe environment. 

  • Execute general mountain safety patrols, rescue operations, and first aid on ski slopes and trails. 

  • Assist with event setup, safety monitoring, and teardown during competitions and events. 

  • Manage trail closures, signage, and hazard mitigation. 

Summer Season: 

  • Conduct water rescue operations and participate in water rescue training. 

  • Perform high-angle rescue operations and rescue training. 

  • Serve as Medical First Responder for U.S. National, Development, and International Ski Teams during training and events. 

  • Patrol mountain biking and hiking trails, providing medical response and maintaining safety. 

  • Monitor all UOP summer activities, ensuring safety and responding to any incidents. 

  • Assist in mountain bike trail maintenance, repairs, and safety inspections. 

  • Support summer event operations by assisting with setup, safety monitoring, and teardown. 

  • Engage in summer trail construction and maintenance projects, including signage installation and erosion control. 

Other Duties  

  • Complete all required in-house training. 

  • All other job responsibilities as assigned. 

Candidate Knowledge and Essential Skills 

  • 3+ years continuous (seasonal) Professional Ski Patrol and or Medical Experience required. 

  • 3+ years continuous (seasonal) ropes rescue, extrication, chair lift evacuation experience required. 

  • 2+ years continuous (seasonal) Professional Ski Patrol Avalanche Control Work preferred. 

  • Strong skiing, snowboarding, or tele skiing (Expert Terrain) and Strong Toboggan Skills Required. 

  • Strong Swimming Skills and ability to perform Water Rescue. 

  • Strong Climbing Skills and ability to perform High Angle Rescue. 

  • Ability to operate both snowmobiles and ATV’s. 

  • Ability to operate power tools and landscaping equipment. 

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. 

  • 45 Day Probation with a “Pass” or “Fail” Evaluation at Day 30-45. 

Minimum Requirements 

  • Current NSP OEC certification or current Utah State EMT-B certification, or equivalent. 

  • Current CPR for medical professional’s certification. 

  • A valid Driver’s License. 

  • Minimum 21 years of age. 

  • Ability to work outdoors in all temperature/weather extremes. 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

  • Hearing – to converse with others in a normal conversation. 

  • Balancing, bending, climbing, kneeling, walking, pushing, reaching above shoulders, and sitting. 

  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
