Digital Marketing Manager 


The digital marketing manager reports to the director of communications. The position plans, creates, and implements strategies, tactics, and content that appeal to a diverse array of target audiences to meet marketing and communications objectives. Working closely and collaboratively with the communications team, this position is responsible for maintaining the school’s website, creating and deploying effective email communications, and enhancing the effectiveness of social media. The right candidate is experienced and dedicated to digital marketing and social media and seeks to find creative ways to advance the school’s efforts in these important areas. 


WHAT YOU WILL DO:

WEBSITE: 

  • Serve as site administrator for the school’s public-facing website in collaboration with users across the institution and with outside vendors. 
  • Carry primary responsibility for site updates, functionality, and user support. 
  • In coordination with the communications team’s director, videographer, and writer, create, curate, and post content on a regular basis to applicable channels, and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the school’s messages and priorities. 
  • Manage digital platforms to maximize potential and performance. 
  • Work closely with the admission office to ensure the site effectively meets its needs and supports the lead generation and recruitment goals of the office. 
  • Support the website work done by and for other departments, including athletics, academics, and development.
     

SOCIAL MEDIA: 

  • In coordination with the communications team’s director and videographer, design posts and monitor all social media for the school, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, and other applications and channels. 
  • Support and guide other departments (athletics, admission, development, arts) in their use of the school’s social media and ensure compliance with set guidelines.
  • Respond promptly to inappropriate posts and content related to, from, and about the school. Implement proper procedures for managing inappropriate content, reporting to others, and resolving issues. 
  • Be prepared to support any crisis communication needs of the school as necessary.  

DIGITAL MARKETING AND E-COMMUNICATIONS: 

  • Working closely with the communications team, coordinate production and scheduling of school emails to all constituent groups. 
  • Collaborate regularly with members of the admissions and advancement offices on communications projects and campaigns throughout the year. Provide significant marketing support through website management, social media, email, and digital marketing. 
  • Engage and remain integrated with and attuned to the daily life of the school to ensure authentic communications about the culture, community, people, events, activities, achievements, and programs of Thayer Academy.
  • Assume other responsibilities as needed, such as media relations, sports information, crisis communications, photography, videography, and occasional required evening and weekend assignments.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a focus on English, communications/marketing, or a related field. 
  • At least three years of experience in digital communications and marketing, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, with hands-on proficiency in the applicable tools and technologies for the development and management of websites, digital marketing, and social media. 
  •  Knowledge of and/or experience with communications, marketing, and/or technology for independent schools and/or higher education preferred. 
  • Experience working in a creative team environment, agency, or organization that designs and manages traditional and contemporary marketing and communications programs.
  • An understanding of the principles of modern marketing for reputation building, admissions, recruiting, and fundraising.  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Skills specific to this role, including proficient use of Constant Contact, Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Meta/Facebook Ads Manager, Google Analytics, social media platforms, and other appropriate tools. 
  • Experience working with and maximizing websites through effective design, intuitive navigation, forms, and data management. 
  • Experience with website content management systems. 
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing concepts, including SEO, SEM, content marketing, and workflows. 
  • Ability to write compelling prose in an efficient and timely manner. 
  • Demonstrated ability to create and deploy content for multiple audiences, publishing to digital and social platforms. 
  • Extremely detail-oriented; must possess superior organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple projects while working effectively to set schedules, meet competing deadlines, and respond to changing needs and priorities. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders, students, and colleagues at all levels. 
  • Ability to learn new software and web-based systems, applications, and tools. 
  • Demonstrated integrity, warmth, flexibility, confidence, a positive outlook, a sense of humor, and a willingness to assist beyond the role.
