Nselxcin Language Apprentice (KD-44337)

POSITION: Language Apprentice, Nselxcin

SALARY: $20.00-$22.56 , per hour DOE

REPORTS TO: Nselxcin Language Instructor Sr.

LOCATION: Language Program, Omak, WA 

Basic Functions: Non-Exempt. The Language Apprentice will work under the direction of the Language Instructor and Fluent Elder Speaker(s) to learn one of the three traditional languages of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation also known as the Colville Confederated Tribes (CCT). 

Education and Training: 

• Apprentice I requires a High School Diploma
• Apprentice II requires a High School Diploma and 3-6 Months experience
• Apprentice III requires a High School Diploma and 6-12 Months experience
• Apprentice IV requires a High School Diploma and 12-18 Months experience
• Apprentice V requires a High School Diploma and 18-24 Months experience
• Requires a valid driver's license and must be eligible for the Tribes' vehicle insurance and maintain throughout employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Requires knowledge and history of the cultures of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation (CCT). 
• Requires knowledge of Archival Theory to create archives of language of language materials that will be available to tribal member public or ability to learn.  
• Requires previous exposure to one of the Languages of the CCT in a community setting, through college classes or at home (preferred).
• Requires good communication skills and experience following verbal and/or written instructions.  
• Requires the ability to work well with Fluent Elder Speakers. 
• Requires the ability to participate in traditional and field activities such as root digging, berry gathering, pit cooking, and other cultural activities. 
• Requires the ability to take initiative on their own learning of the language and culture.  
• Requires the ability to work with tribal elders in a culturally appropriate manner.
• Requires the ability to collaborate with various departments, partners, or individual members of the CCT.
• Requires the ability to independently perform all of the duties of the position. 
• Requires the ability to use computer or willing to learn how to use a computer.  
• Requires the ability to use video, digital, and audio recording equipment or willing to learn.

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.  In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances.  If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
