Job Summary:

The Maintenance Supervisor (Days) is responsible for overseeing all maintenance operations during the day shift in a fast-paced food manufacturing plant. This role ensures that all machinery, equipment, and facility systems operate effectively and efficiently, minimizing downtime and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The supervisor will lead a team of maintenance technicians, troubleshoot equipment issues, and implement preventive maintenance schedules to support production goals and maintain a safe working environment.  Hours are 5:00 am to 2:00 pm Monday through Friday schedule.  Hours may vary due to business need.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Supervision:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of a team of maintenance technicians during the night shift.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to maintenance staff to ensure high standards of performance and safety.
  • Assign tasks based on urgency and technician skill level, and monitor the progress of ongoing work.
  • Ensure that all work is conducted according to plant safety protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, continuous improvement, and adherence to plant policies.

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

  • Oversee the repair and troubleshooting of machinery and equipment breakdowns in a timely manner to minimize production downtime.
  • Perform root cause analysis on recurring equipment failures and develop corrective actions to prevent future issues.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities are properly documented, including work orders, repair history, and parts usage.
  • Lead the execution of preventive maintenance schedules to ensure equipment is serviced regularly and is in optimal working condition.

Preventive Maintenance & Planning:

  • Monitor and track the progress of the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program, ensuring scheduled PMs are completed as planned.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Planner to ensure adequate spare parts are stocked for anticipated maintenance needs.
  • Participate in maintenance planning meetings and assist with scheduling maintenance activities to minimize disruptions to production.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with OSHA regulations, food safety standards, and environmental policies.
  • Conduct regular safety audits of maintenance areas, ensuring proper use of PPE and adherence to lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Investigate and report accidents, near-misses, and safety hazards within the maintenance department, implementing corrective actions as necessary.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging the team to identify and suggest improvements to equipment, processes, and safety measures.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement strategies to improve equipment reliability and plant performance.
  • Utilize data and performance metrics to monitor the effectiveness of maintenance efforts and make adjustments as needed.
  • Communication & Reporting:

  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with production teams, quality control, and other departments regarding maintenance activities and issues.
  • Provide detailed shift reports to the Maintenance Manager or Plant Manager, highlighting any major issues, completed tasks, and ongoing concerns.
  • Work closely with the maintenance team and other plant departments to coordinate downtime for repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Equipment & Facility Upgrades:

  • Assist in the planning and execution of equipment upgrades and facility improvements.
  • Ensure all new equipment installations are properly maintained and integrated into the maintenance program.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Maintenance, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a maintenance role, preferably in food manufacturing or a similar industrial environment.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing or maintenance setting.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, with a solid understanding of industrial equipment and systems (conveyors, boilers, pumps, mixers, compressors, etc.).
  • Familiarity with PLCs, automation systems, and instrumentation in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in the use of maintenance management software (CMMS) for tracking work orders, schedules, and inventory.

 

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of food safety standards, GMP, and OSHA regulations.
  • Understanding of preventive maintenance strategies and their application in manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), and other continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to make sound decisions quickly during emergency situations.
