The School of Education in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at Rockhurst University has an opening for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Education position. Primary responsibilities include teaching and supporting courses for the College at the undergraduate and graduate levels in various degree programs. Classes will be taught using lectures, demonstrations, class discussions, and other appropriate modes of educational delivery in the face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid environment. The teaching load is approximately 26 credit hours per academic year, which equals 2-3 courses per fall, spring, and summer semesters. Responsibilities also include selecting course textbooks and other necessary teaching aids, publishing a syllabus on Canvas, assigning grades and feedback, responding to student emails and scheduling office hours, and posting final grades on Canvas while also submitting them to the Registrars office. This position will also aid the department by attending necessary faculty meetings such as committee meetings and graduations, serving as an academic advisor to students, supervising independent study, as well as performing any other services or duties assigned by the department.

 

Faculty members are expected to be effective at classroom instruction and feedback to students. They must demonstrate deep subject knowledge, including content expertise and currency of that content, while also understanding and utilizing various concepts, research, methodologies, techniques, and applications of said content. They are also expected to serve the College by contributing to the growth and enhancement of the College’s mission and programs. This position will handle information that is both confidential and technical and requires that strict guidelines are maintained and respected. An active leadership style as well as a collaborative, team-oriented, and communicative personal style will be crucial for success.

The position is available for an immediate start date.  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A doctoral degree in education, higher education, educational leadership or closely related field is required
  • Specialized education expertise can vary, but higher education is preferred
  • Evidence of scholarly and creative ability
  • Evidence of expertise in research methods
  • Experience with course development, implementation, and assessment
  • At least 3 years prior teaching experience in higher education preferred
  • Evidence of commitment to scholarly work, service and teaching
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team professionally and confidentially
  • An awareness and interest in the educational mission of Jesuit higher education is preferred
