Position Summary
The Custodial Engineer is an important frontline position with operational responsibilities that works across multiple program sites to support the implementation of the transformation goals of SELF, Inc. through high-level performance of critical safety, maintenance, and environmental oversight and supervision. The Custodial Engineer is responsible for performing janitorial, environmental, and minor maintenance work in multiple facilities. This position is also responsible for supporting the Facilities Manager with procurement and management of supplies, including but not limited to documentation and reporting.
The Custodial Engineer will ensure that proper procedures and protocols are used according to SELF’s general upkeep of property/assets, including buildings, vehicles, tools, and supplies inventory related to janitorial, environmental, and minor maintenance needs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct daily rounds and comprehensive upkeep of the entire facility(s), including identifying areas to be cleaned and repaired, and report findings to the Facilities Manager.

Use proper methods and materials in cleaning and otherwise caring for buildings and equipment.

Maintain a safe physical environment, including using floor signs when cleaning floors; inspecting fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, exit signs, and ceiling lights to ensure they are working properly; and promptly reporting findings to the Facilities Manager and Program Director or Assistant Program Director.

Clean inside the building and the outside parking lot.

Follow policy and procedure for rodent and insect invasion.

Mop/scrub floors, wax/polish floors and furniture, dust furniture, clean/polish brass, clean lavatories and replace lavatory supplies, and dispose of all waste materials.

Cut grass, trim hedges, shovel snow, sweep and clean walks, and assist in keeping outside premises in an orderly condition.

Operate and care for vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment, as well as make simple repairs to janitorial equipment.

Maintain inventory of all furniture, equipment, linen, and supplies, and submit updates as required.

Exercise care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of building surfaces.

Work effectively with co-workers and others.

Attend scheduled and unscheduled staff and departmental meetings, supervisions, community meetings, and trainings as directed.
