WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are actively seeking coaches, college students, and youth development specialists to join our dynamic team of after-school coaches and activity specialists from September 2025 through June 2026. As a valued member of Kids in the Game, you will be able to help us follow and model our 5 organizational core values through action:

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
The After-School Coach is responsible for leading sports and physical activity sessions that engage youth in fun, safe, and inclusive play. Coaches serve as role models, fostering positive relationships and encouraging skill development, teamwork, and confidence. This role requires a passion for youth development, strong coaching skills, and a commitment to creating an environment where all participants feel valued and supported. Additionally, you may also provide assistance with homework and school work during breaks between games and activities. Depending on your availability and skill set, you can expect to work between 10 to 15 hours per week, earning a competitive hourly rate. Our coaches and specialists typically work in various schools throughout the weeks.
As an After School Coach, your key responsibilities will include:
Daily Program Delivery & Expectations
- Plan and facilitate age-appropriate sports, games, and physical activity sessions focused on skill development, teamwork, and fun.
- Lead pre-designed and themed activities in art, STEM, sports, games, and movement.
- Support and engage with participants during homework help, snack time, and structured activities.
- Adapt lessons to accommodate various skill levels and ensure full participation.
- Promote sportsmanship, resilience, and a growth mindset through consistent encouragement and positive reinforcement.
Engagement & Relationship Building
- Build meaningful relationships with participants, demonstrating care, patience, and enthusiasm.
- Encourage all youth, including those less confident or reluctant, to engage and feel included.
- Serve as a positive role model, reinforcing respect, empathy, and fair play.
- Use positive reinforcement and positive language at all times when engaging with the students.

Safety & Supervision
- Ensure a safe and structured environment by actively monitoring participants, equipment, and facilities.
- Respond appropriately to injuries, behavioral challenges, or conflicts, following organizational policies.
- Maintain awareness of emergency procedures and act quickly when needed.
Team Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with site directors, other coaches, and program staff to ensure quality programming.
- Communicate effectively about participant progress, incidents, or program needs.
- Attend required trainings, team meetings, and performance check-ins.
Professionalism & Representation
- Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to actively engage with youth.
- Lateness and absences will be tracked through our call out policy
- Excessive tardiness and absences could result in reduced schedules or more.
- Be prepared in proper uniform for every day of program.
- Company shirt or sweater (log visible at all times)
- Sneakers / Close-Toed walking shoes
- Athletic shorts or sweatpants
- Uphold the organization’s mission and values both in and out of the program.
- Demonstrate integrity, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
After School Program Types: Kids in the Game facilitates a variety of after school program types throughout the school year. Each program supports youth development through sports and creative play in a variety of activities. The program types include:
- Full After School: Our full after-school program combines a range of activities including sports, homework help, creative movement, dance, STEAM projects, special events, and fitness games-galore into a daily program. After School Coaches will work with Co-Coaches to take students through each activity during the afternoon schedule. They will lead provided curriculum games, activities, and team-time group activities.
- Teams & Classes: Working collaboratively with our school partner’s vision for after-school, Kids in the Game provides physical activities and sports-based group games for after school students. Teams & Classes After School Coaches will prepare and lead these sports and games throughout the afternoon schedule.
- Enrichment After School: Working collaboratively with our school partner’s vision for after-school and existing vendors, Kids in the Game provides specialty classes including: STEM, Warrior Fitness, Creative Club, Team Sports, Specialty Sports (Soccer, Tennis, Pickleball, Flag Football, Volleyball) and more! Lead Enrichment Coaches will develop and facilitate group activities in a specific class type for a range of ages. They will be required to collaborate and communicate with students, other after school coaches, coordinators, and the school administration.
Weekly Schedule: Your weekly schedule as an after-school coach will involve working approximately 10-15 hours per week. These programs are located in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx. The majority of afterschool programs run from 3pm to 6pm, five days a week. Additionally, some programs may require extended half-day schedules once per week, which run from 1pm to 6pm.
Compensation: This is a part-time, hourly position. We offer competitive hourly rates in the range of $20-$25 / hour for after school coaches based on prior experience as a general coach, teacher, youth development specialist, or activity specialist. Rates vary by program type as well:
- Full After School: $20-$23 per hour
- Coaches with less than 2 years experience will be paid at the starting range of $20-$22 per hour.
- Coaches with more than 2-3+ years of qualified coaching and teaching experience to be paid above starting range.
- Teams & Classes After School: $22-$25 per hour
- Coaches with less than 2 years experience will be paid at the starting range of $22-$24 per hour.
- Coaches with more than 2-3+ years of qualified coaching and teaching experience to be paid above starting range.
- Enrichment (Class Lead) After School: $23-$25 per hour
- Coaches with less than 2 years experience will be paid at the starting range of $23-$25 per hour.
- Coaches with more than 3+ years of qualified coaching and teaching experience can expect to be paid above the starting range.
