POSITION SUMMARY:

 

This position will be responsible for the general supervision of the teen members that utilize the YMCA facility during the assigned hours. He/she must be conscientious of his or her position as not only a staff member, but also as a good role model.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

 

He/she must have the ability to demonstrate understanding basic group management; effective and efficient time management; demonstrate capacity for managing and leading youth; excellent oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and coaching skills, ability to exemplify; and a “Y-Voice” that demonstrates determination, genuine concern, welcoming attitude, hopefulness and a nurturing spirit.

Understand ethical behavior and business practices, and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization; maintain a work ethic that holds a high standard to organizational accountability.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Ensure members accurately sign in and out
  • Hold membership and guest cards while the participants are in the facility
  • Provide a welcoming environment and entry to all youth and parents
  • Develop and nurture positive relationships with youth; empowering them to reach their fullest potential and achieve personal growth
  • Assist in the development, implementation and instruction of afterschool clubs and activities
  • Create and develop monthly lesson plans for program services offered
  • Lead and/or assist with the implementation and delivery of teen programs, preparing teens with 21st century life skills
  • Attend field trips and community service initiatives that support Y Teen services
  • Notify supervisor of any problems and/or disciplinary action, including discussion of the issue with participant’s parent
  • Accurately complete all necessary documentation of an incident and follow membership Code of Conduct protocols
  • Ensure equipment or YMCA property is not mistreated or misused
  • Ensure appropriate behavior and language is used at all times
  • Monitor television, and all other technology is of age appropriate media at all times
  • Ensure participants are of appropriate age to sign themselves out of the facility
  • Provide advance notification of two weeks to Supervisor of any requested changes in the work schedule
  • Model the Code of Conduct through appropriate interactions that guide youth behavior and uphold the core values of the Y
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development days when requested by a supervisor
  • Occasionally support other Y Youth Development programs and departments
  • Wear YMCA staff shirt and badge for proper identification
  • Provide support for various YMCA special events and fundraisers
  • Assure positive customer service with all staff, members, and guests
  • Maintain proper maintenance and cleanliness of all Youth Center equipment
  • Other duties may be assigned

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Certifications: Adult/Child CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification – within 90 days of employment
  • At least 19 years of age
  • Experience working with youth

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
  • Will be exposed to moderate to loud noise.
